This is an interesting idea. I think instead of using PlexDoors, there should be another kind of shield, that projects in a bubble, similar to how a docking module works. It could be less powerful per block, but would protect a planet better than normal shields.

This is how it should work. But right now big ships CAN kill small ones easily with perfect-accuracy turrets that are bigger than the ship they are shooting.
