Seems to me that it doesn't matter what they're called, you can imagine them to be whatever. Just color them like, green or something :P The idea of a plasma based explosive shot seems fine to me, especially considering that you don't have any limited number of missiles on board your ship.

The atmospheres still serve the purpose of being able to see a planet from a very far distance, but yes, I'd like to see them prettied up and made nice, but I'm sure that's coming anyways. ^^
