what server is this happening to?
please add a log.txt.0 file from one of the failed attempts. it is located in the starmade intstall folder /logs folder. rmove the .0 part and drag and drop it into a posting here.
open the settings.cfg in the Starmade install folder with notepad and change the following line to this
PLAY_INTRO = false
TUTORIAL_PLAY_INTRO = false
if there isnt a settings.cfg
use this one to copy to your game and change the ingame settings to your preferences (remove the .txt part first)...
ok .. great .. i have only a very (VERY) limited understanding when it comes to Linux .
try to use the linux client from this page then: StarMade
try to reinstall with that one (gets the game from a different server)
maybe steam is delivering trash again
hmm ... completely broken then. those folders should be created on download of the game already.
change the installation path (first launcher) to something like c:/starmade (if it isnt already there) and install again. just make sure it isnt in a place protected by te OS (programs, desktop...

Nighthawk_77 ... please choose an install folder other than Desktop or Programs or anything else the OS controls. C:/Starmade should be fine. What OS are you using and is it 64 bit ? Make sure you do have a 64bit Java installed on a 64bit OS for the game.

i had seen that .. just wanted to explain that versions with the same number (i think there are more than one 148 or 149 right now ) would be able to connect to each other ... and that a local game start (so with its own server) would be enough anyway because the shader problem is client side...
server shouldnt matter if it is on the same base version as the client .. because shader are client side. they are depending on the GPU hardware.

The testserver is using 2 custom blocks (as a test ... nothing big or fancy) and i havent seen a problem with that.
removed them and could download them again on next login.
will check anothertime in the evening.

That is really not a thing i have seen before ... execpt
1. you really did change the login name (a new character gets created than, which of course starts at spawn)
2. the files ENTITY_PLAYERCHARACTER_Name.ent and/or ENTITY_PLAYERSTATE_Name.ent in the server-database/YourWorldname on the server...
