Auto-salvaging would be pretty awesome, but it could very easily become overpowered. But hey, right now you can make max credits without moving once, so the economy will need some serious work anyway.
I really do hope they streamline the docking system, either make it so the dimensions are fully customizable (through a GUI), or another similar method.
And if they made it so you could put whatever music you wanted in, similar to textures, then we could get some awesome music-makers to make awesome music.

We've got quite the pickle here don't we? Everything I would've suggested is here, the only other thing would be (if you have multiple graphics cards) to make sure StarMade uses the better one.
Time is money when transporting stuff, so it would make the most sense to have as fast an FTL as possible. But it would be largely up to player design, which is the best part of both this idea and StarMade.
This would be very interesting, both for balancing and roleplay. You could have transports that are slow sublight but really fast FTL, or fighters that are super fast sublight but next to no FTL.
