Sorry for not being complete, I was suggesting that a radar jammer could be used as a method to stop the alerts. Or in the terms of real life combat: like a camouflage jacket or one of these things. I feel like this would give the best of both worlds, effectively allowing the attacker to decide...
First off, your knowledge of convection cooling is painful;). In order for something to become affected by the background temperature, it requires air or some other fluid to transfer the heat away[1]. Space is famously devoid of air [Citation Needed]. The only other ways that heat can transfer...
Just to add something somewhat related, an engine or beacon with a slabs/transparent blocks and such placed over them should still give off a flare, provided that the slab is not completely covering the engine.
Things like warheads are fun, using them makes you feel special, like you know what you are doing. I feel REALLY REALLY SPECIAL, especially when using cloaked warheads, those are extra special.

YOSSSSSSSSSSS! This would be AMAZING, and not that hard to stick into the game. Though there should be some limitations:
Sectors will not appear where there are already stations or ships (obviously)
Some of the spawned sectors will not appear within a handful of sectors close to a player...
Hmm, in the end game it might be better to buff the external view, but make it only usable from a separate block or altered, single use camera, where you could not control the ship. Your changes to cameras should still apply
