Generally, in most cases, everything works under the principle of "the bigger they are, the harder they fall."
That doesn't necessarily have to be the exact case here, but in StarMade with the shields working they way they do right now, it's basically "The bigger they are, the more invincible...

I think 10k is way too big. I tried things out on 5k, and things were spread out really nicely. Took me about ten minutes to find a solar system. It just seems like 10k would be unnecessarily large.
