Ah but, this is Starmade not Star Trek. Players in a Ship's gravity get much better Inertia Dampers. Why not shuttles too? :D So, basically keep the existing Core docking mechanics working with the new Rail Blocks? I'm game for that as I think in practice it would only be relatively small...

Hmmm. Just a thought but, how about some kind of Gravity Dock? The mechanics would be exactly the same as the current docking block (draws an invisible cube which can be enlarged by enhancers) except instead of defining a docking area, it defines an artificial gravity field. Anything moving...

I'm sure he already would have if he could.

I agree this change appears to make generic Hangars or Landing Pads harder to make. However, this also makes it more realistic. While I like the convenience of being able to land any of my small craft on the flat surface of a Hangar, having it stick to the floor automatically (without the aid of...

I wasn't worried about aesthetics in the sense that the block itself may look ugly or not blend in with the Hull colour, I was thinking more about spoiling the outline of the hull shape. For example: My compact 7x7x5 Personnel Shuttle has a pair of landing skis, similar to a helicopter's. If I...

If the Rail blocks have to touch each other (which currently is the case) then yes. I guess this would have the advantage that Turret design wouldn't have to change much. However, if the functionality could be modified slightly to allow the docking effect to work through, say, 1 block then maybe...

This is a good point. Having to add even 1 extra block to a compact ship design can, well, ruin both the aesthetic and practicality of that design. It might be neat if a Ship Core could still dock directly to a Rail Block without needing a Rail Docker, provided the ship's total mass was below...

I already raised this on page 2. Docking Arms become incredibly more practical, but Hangars and Landing Platforms get more tricky. Especially if you want to make a more generic Hangar which can dock any ship which is small enough to fit inside it. I think the way forward with this new system...

Great ideas, which give me another great idea: Docking adapters! Airlock not compatible with the Docking Arm on your best mate's Space Station? Build a small bridge with one of both types of docking area at each end and connect-up all 3 using chain docking! Just like adapting USB A to USB B :D

True, I guess it really does come down to good design and planning, which is what this game is largely about. I just hope compatibility doesn't turn out to be as tricky as making the International Space Station was ;)

Wow, now I can finally dock my 5x5x5 lifeboat without having to make a 7x7x7 docking area! :D I have a concern though: When building a dock at the moment, all you need is the right number of docking enhancers and if the docking Ship is small enough, it's guaranteed to fit. With this update...

      Kupu's thread

Sounds like everyone just wants transparent blocks in all the default colours which they can use for both windows and doors. Maybe have more than one toughness grading, e.g. Glass = Hull, Crystal = Standard Armour, Reinforced Crystal = Advanced Armour. I mean, we already have Blast Doors so why...

      Kupu's thread

I'd like a little less transparency, just to make it even less like glass. Either that or make glass more transparent and/or whiter. Otherwise the colours are spot-on (assuming the black one is actually black and the white one is, well, white ;))

SMSG - StarMade Skin Generator [Alpha]

This tool is fantastic, especially for people like me with no artistic talent. I like the way you can import your own textures too if you fancy a go at being creative. Very much in the spirit of the game :) Regarding the female skin: Wouldn't it be an idea to add some shading around the hips to...

Is there an eventual plan to develop the First Person experience of the game? I realise StarMade is primarily about building and flying spaceships, but enhancing the FP interactions on space-stations and planetary environments (other than just mining them from orbit) would greatly increase drive...

Planned Folder for Pirate, Trading Guild, etc Ships.

This is a good idea but, wouldn't it be effectively doable by using NPC crews which are already planned?

I think he's referring to this: http://www.starmadewiki.com/wiki/Logbook I came by the one talking about the Science Party a while ago but can't remember how. I'm sure there's a command to spawn one in your inventory.
