I guess it´s more about making interior useful and necessary than playing sims starmade edition. You have to build your ship with enough room for your crew or they won´t work efficient and your ship will perform with less performance. It also makes the world more lively if the crew runs around...

I don´t really see how the current targeting system solves the problems you describe. As long as there is an option to not place this extra blocks it´s fine with me.

You have to use a speed controller on the rails that reduces the speed to 0. Since I know about this I include this in every rail mechanic I´m using. Sometimes a bit complicated but worth it in the long term.
