This is a fun little seasonal contest. The requirements are simple: make a jack-o'-lantern and take a nice picture of it. A jack-o'-lantern, for the purposes of this contest, is a carved lantern made from a pumpkin, root vegetable or starmade plant.

    Rules:
    1. Builds must not exceed 200 blocks in any direction (you don't have to go anywhere near that upper limit, just to be clear). Clarification: This means your build area is 200x200x200
    2. Builds must be submitted by 31.10.2025 23:59 (UTC)
    3. To submit a build, upload it to the community content page, then post in this thread including a link and exactly 1 screenshot of the build
    4. You may submit up to 3 builds, if you want to submit another because you discovered your love for starmade vegetable carving in the process, please clarify which previous build is getting replaced in the submission
    Judging
    1. The builds will be judged by me
    2. The screenshots required in the submissions will be judged separately (also by me)
    3. I will post results within the first 2 weeks of November
    4. I will post reviews of all builds and the top 5 screenshots (more if I feel like it)
    5. Detail of the reviews will somewhat depend on the amount of submissions, but there's not that much to say about jack-o'-lanterns

In third place we have DeepspaceMechanic . There’s not that much to say on this screenshot. It is well positioned, the glowing elements are clearly visible without the rest of the build being overly dark, but it’s a (very nice) build floating in a sector

Second place goes to Crashmaster. Very similar to Deepspace Mechanic’s screenshot in layout. In the end, the deciding factor for this screenshot ranking was that I feel the darker system background evokes a slightly spookier mood and therefore better fits.

colonel lacu takes first place for screenshots. I really like this screenshot a lot. Despite the busier backdrop the lantern stands out and is clearly the focal point of this screenshot. To me it creates the image of the devious little guy haunting a hangar.
Before we get into the reviews, I want to make clear that these are predominantly about the jack-o’-lantern part of the builds while two builds include some inbuilt scenery. Luckily said scenery doesn’t affect the overall rankings, but I will include a bit on my thoughts about it at the end of the relevant sections.
Crashmaster's Jacob of the Lamp (amazing name btw) comes in third. This is the closest to a realistically sized Jack-o’-Lantern, though at 1 metre it’s a generously proportioned pumpkin nonetheless. This compact size is possible due to some nice display usage, however, this comes at the cost of it being an inverse lantern in a way, due to the face being the part that doesn’t glow. Certainly a creative approach to the contest.
The staircase is a nice way to disguise the display, though the railing might need a re-design.

The Devious Little Guy (another great name) by colonel lacu takes second place. The stand out feature of this one is amazing usage of the variety of shapes StarMade offers, creating a very pumpkin shaped pumpkin..Creating such an expressive face at this small scale (5/5/5) is pretty impressive. The one downside is that it somewhat depends on perspective and orientation, it can look a bit weird from some angles.

In first place we have DeepspaceMechanic's Pumpkin Horseman featuring the largest pumpkin, though this isn’t the metric by which I’m ranking these. While it is very spherical, I really like the eyes and mouth of the lantern. The extra depth and the way it is used, especially for the mouth, helps to create a very carved feel and allows it to maintain shape well from different angles. Additionally, it packs a little punch.
With the ranking relevant bit over, now to the elephant (or horse(man), I guess) in the room: All the non-lantern parts. It’s a really cool idea and the rider is built amazingly. Great slab usage for the boots, trousers and torso. I really like the hands, great usage of all the available shapes. The ability to launch the Jack-o’-Lantern upwards is a nice touch and allows the horseman to become truly headless. While the horse doesn’t quite match the rider in quality (not saying that I could build a better horse in StarMade), the horseshoes are a nice touch.
With this, this little seasonal contest is concluded.

Thank you very much for the review and the contest itself! Looking forward to other competitions/build initiatives held by you.

Also, in your review of Colonel Lacu's entry: "creating such an expressive face at such a small scale is pretty impressive."

    Nice choice of words (y)
