I haven't played the game in a few months and everything ran smoothly before. Now, when I open the launcher, it runs so slow it's unusable.

Are there any likely causes I should try to fix right off the bat? Reinstalling does not solve the issue.

starmade/logs/ The 3 .log files in there. upload 'em if they look like cuniform to you.

    Java -> is it updated?

Launcher, is it the new one?

ctrl + shift + esc -> do you have things look like they're maxxing out? hardfaults?

Winkey+r -> "resmon" ->enter -> do things look like they are maxxing out? hardfaults?

Winkey +r -> "dxdiag" -> you got good drivers?

internets -> google -> MSI Afterburner -> is your stuff Too hot? Clean your heatsinks

winkey + r ->"mdsched.exe" -> schedule windows memory diagnostics test.

I've only got a launcher.log on my new install atm as I haven't reached the point of actually trying to play yet. It's nice and "short" as I didn't pass the login phase:

I've updated Java to the latest version as well as uninstalled old versions. I'm afraid this did not fix the issue.

I am using the new launcher, no change of habit from before.

Task Manager and Resource Manager don't show anything maxing out, other programs can run smoothly at the same time.

    My drivers are relatively recent.

Heat isn't an issue, everything is nice and clean as well.

A memory check is pending, I'll get back to you soon. =)

The Launcher itself isnt running on Java ... so as long as you are not even starting the game itself you wont run into any Java problems.
And you are not using your OSs Java anyways (9:24:48 PM | javaPath: (none)) , but the embedded Launchers Java which should be working.
Is there maybe some Security Software interfering with the proper excecution of the Launcher?
Are the Webside news shown properly in the Launchers window ?
Is the Launcher showing the Launch button ?

While that might not be slowing down the launcher, it is something to be worried about....
Smiling has good points on next steps. let us know about mem diag results too.

New version has been acting weird-ish for me too. Refuses to go fullscreen properly or allow afterburner/rivatuner overlay-injections. That's probably not related to you though.

Double-check your swap-file isn't doing a bunch of red/write schenanigans while launcher is open (resmon ->disk). Low sys memory stutters are usually swap-related, though i don't rule out hardfaults from bad ram sectors till you've run the overnight.

"heat isn't an issue" means every temp sensor on your system is reading less than 70 degrees celsius, correct?

Double-checking: laptop, or desktop? Hybrid graphics or dedicated or onboard/shared? if hybrid, you might need to "force the dedicated GPU to run" as it might not recognize starmade as a graphics program. Had that issue with my buddy's 2017 ROG laptop, had to turn of the low-power GFX manually whenever he ran starmade so it would use the Nvidia instead of Intel.

I think this may have been the problem. I manually added the Starmade Launcher to the allowed-though-Firewall apps and everything runs smooth as butter now. :catdone:

Thanks for the support, folks. =D
