I'm posting here in general discussion to answer some easy questions first. If they seem legit then maybe we'll pass them on elsewhere. Heck, I don't even know if I'm in the regular game server.
    1) when I log in, I see 'sandbox' and 'multiplayer server', and in that, there was just one server. I assume I'm in the right spot, but no idea because I don't see anyone. (I know it's alpha still...)
    2) it's a bit annoying not to be able to see what I'm salvaging. when I look at a rock/block, I'd like to be able to know if it's ice or tekt or whatever before it's in my inventory. Is there a way to do that?
2b) So far as I can tell, I have to leave the ship to see my inventory. I see the hot-bar with salvager and cannons when I'm in the ship, but I have to leave the ship to see what I actually salvaged and do anything with it. Any way around that?
    3) I guess I can only enter/exit the ship through the core, which presumably should be protected, so I basically have to disassemble the ship to get in and out. That seems like a hassle... Am I doing that wrong?
    4) I see 'plex door' and I presume that's some simpler way. So I thought I'd try that, but I need a 'Micro Assembler'. In the wiki, it says that's made with 5AMM/5CC in the Basic Factory. But in the game, it says it's made 10/10 in the Micro Assembler. Obviously that's an issue. Is that a bug or am I just looking at it wrong?

Game seems great, so I hope to figure out soon where I am and what I'm doing. Thanks for the help.

    1) The server you see it "localhost," that is your own computer. If you go to the server list, you can find many more populated servers. I'd stick to single player until you figure out the basic mechanics of the game though,
2a) The vets of the game like me can look at an asteroid and tell you all of the blocks that are in it just by it's color/looking around, but while you're still new it's pretty easy just to start salvaging and check your inventory.
2b) To check your inventory, press 'i'. You should be able to do this at any point/any state in the game, I'm not sure what's going wrong for you. You can also press space to build your ship more easily, if you didn't know that already.
    3) Doors, systems, and hull are your answer. Most people have a "core room" that's a room dedicated to having space around the core, they're usually fairly small. The only way into the core room is through a door or a hallway. It's really easy and isn't really a vulnerability to have hallways left/right/up/down/back of the core. Shields also protect all of your ship while they're still up, taking all damage from any weapon. (with the exclusion of torches and possibly warheads). There are shield capacitors and shield-rechargers. You'll tend to want more capacity than recharge. Hull (basic, standard and advanced) can provide armor and protection on the outside of your ship, making it harder and harder to damage the ship.
    4) Yep. Press 'r' on a plexdoor, blast door, glass door, or any of the forcefields and it will toggle state between open and closed.

Thanks for those responses. anyone have any answers to the 'micro assembler' question? I noticed it also applies to 'standard factory'.
What I mean is that in-game, I can't build micro assembler or standard factory because in-game, it says I need a micro assembler to build them. it's not like that in wiki but it is in the game...

The answer to that is a little weird, the wiki tends to be outdated and wrong, not to mention we have four wikis all with conflicting information. What you want to do is salvage an asteroid with your starting materials, put the shards and ores in the first blue button of your inventory screen (I forget what it says, sorry. It should be in the top left.) and put either the ores or shards in there to get basic materials. From there you craft a basic factory, use the dropdown system. If there's a block you know you can craft, but it doesn't appear in the basic factory, use the basic factory to make a standard factory, and the standard factory to make an advanced factory.

The only official wiki (starmadepedia) is more complete, more up to date, and more useful than the other three largely abandoned ones. I do not believe the microassembler has a current use at all.

The microassembler is used to convert Scrap (the stuff salvaged from decayed objects) into alloyed metal mesh and crystal composite.
and that is afaik there only use as of now.
the normal production chanin is Capsule Refinery (raw recources) -> either of a Factorytype depending on production recipe

It also used to reprocess any excessive ore/crystal capsules into meshes/composites, so If you've in need of either of those, you can use leftover capsules to produce them.

so I played a bit more and I think
    - the in-game recipe is wrong. it says 'micro assembler' in places where basic/standard factory should be
    - to get a factory to work, you have to shoot it with the power gun. no power, no production. not really obvious though. the tiny 'not enough power' text that pops up isn't very obvious to see or resolve.

to get a factory to work, it need power, so just add some power block to your base/planet.

a full factory with a dozens factory blocks and lot of factory enhancers ( which increase the rate of production of the factory they are connected to ) need lot of power reactors and capacitors. they need energy ( like real one, which need lot of electricity, fuel, coal, steam....)

where ecxactly does it state in a recipe you need an micro assembler instead of a factory ? (best add a cut out screen shot of that)

and yes it also converts capsules into mesh/composite but that is highly inefficient i think ... especially when you need big amounts of capsules for some recipes

the power requirement isnt communicated very well i guess. And if you place a factory on a planet you have to make sure not only to place energy generation but also energy storage (a planet plate has 0 storage in comparision to 50K on ships and stations)

Make sure you use this wiki as the others ones need to be taken down. Anyone know how to do that? https://starmadepedia.net/wiki/StarMade_Wiki
