I've run busier forums than this, with far more unruly members. The moderating here is a paradise of leniency. No complaints though.
Generally, moderation disputes arise from a divergence of expectations for the community. Alterintel, does this forum have a mission statement? If not, the...
Those suggestions also sound interesting. I don't mind an alternative implementation, just as long as the final game gets something by way of crew usefulness and combat repair.
In FtD the player will automatically repair blocks from the ship blueprint one at a time in combat, but having no...
Yes GalactusX. IMHO if there was to be a logic layer, those logic blocks should effectively be 'stored' inside another block that can be destroyed. A 'micro-computer' block or something like containing the logic blocks might be good. Maybe even an existing block that doesn't do anything, like...
That, I have absolutely no problem with. The large size the current logic systems take up doesn't bother me --fitting it in is just one more design consideration-- but I'm not going to argue things must be big for the sake of being big. If the various 'ghost' logic systems still need to be...
So, I was chatting to some friends recently about what made the co-op campaign in From the Depths so much fun (yes, I am going to suggest shamelessly ripping something from that game).
In said game, when in combat the player's character would
1. Be at constant risk of being killed.
2. Be able...
Two points here:
1. This is where the main problem with Lua comes in. Those that can will keep the best stuff for themselves, and --wherever it creates a tactical advantage-- those that can't will get the reduced functionality publicly released scripts only. This is natural, as those that take...
IMHO this is pretty beside the point though. I take your point about wanting to better interact with the universe, but I think in this kind of game that it better done by integrating sensor blocks with the existing logic blocks. While it may be possible for most people to learn Lua, it's...
Am I going completely mad or have the old style bar lights vanished from the game?
I was just looking for them as I used the black lights turned off as decorative blocks for table legs, antennas, wires for hanging the new bar lights etc. and I can't find them anywhere. There don't seem to be...
Well I see a definite use for being able to park your ship in orbit by whichever means, but the problem is when you exit the core does the parking break switch off?
I guess I like number two the most (least blocks and most realistic sounding).
I like to actually use the gravity wells to go faster than the server speed limit, so the thought of slowing down doesn’t really fill me with enthusiasm. Not a fan of this idea.
Ah, yes. Comets, the icebergs of the sky. By jackknifing off one after another at breakneck speed, we can create a...
Plex lifts? Or don't those work any more (not used them in ages)?
Personally, We're opting for transporters over lifts just to save on lag. I totally love the logic system in the game and think it's well worth the time to learn, and and my friends and I have made some cool stuff with it. But...
I think this is actually a "feature". This sort of thing happens in certain situations with glass, crystal, grill, scaffold -- anything see-through. I believe the game isn't rendering sides that are not directly visible to improve performance - even when it looks bad to do so. I guess the...
Yes, it is possible. The admins on the server I play on are usually very helpful as long as one follows the rules. In fact, IIRC, it even specifically says to ask an admin to help you move your station to make sure it is in the centre of your sector.
Moving closer to a planet sounds more laggy...
