      Idea : Production controller

The production controller is a block which has two functions - it provides ghost inventory as a proxy cargo which passes on demand for items to factories and allows players to create specific quantities of items. It's intended to be placed between cargo storage and blocks which draw items from...

      Factions and a populated universe

I've read the other faction suggestions, and I think there are good ideas in them but I want to make one that's particularly scoped. My factional model is highly influenced by the best faction system I've ever seen which was Drox Operative. If you haven't played that game, I highly recommend...

      Economy suggestion

These kinds of posts are hard to make. It's easy to get ones head up ones ass with too much detail, and lose the core of the gameplay suggestion so I've rewritten this thing three times now. Here's my final attempt. Essentially this: Production "Planets and mines produce raw materials that...

Give Beams and Cannons an innate "Blast-radius"

I agree with the basis of this suggestion and would like to follow up on it. One of the things that is distorting the effectiveness of large weapons is that they are massive, but also scalpel precise. A planet sized laser has the same pinpoint damage as a laser-needle, which means that all...

      Recognized cameras and display modules

No it's not really that simple. It's more like - for every monitor in view the game would have to render down to the monitor's pixel rectangle. it's stored as a surface texture, with some arbitrary resolution that you scale. there's a lot of trickery and arcana that can be done around this...

      Recognized Qualitative vs quantitative balance.

This is not and was never intended as a specific call to nerf anything, but rather to bring to focus that an analysis should be done taking qualitative factors as well as quantitative factors. I hear you when you say that "dumbfire missiles won't get more useful if they were slower" but what I...

      Cockpit Block

And you need to be able to enter the ship via this cockpit.

      Recognized cameras and display modules

Well that's the thing right? The camera doesn't really 'show' anything until you are using it as a viewpoint. To get the camera's view point is rendering an entire scene. Without any tricks, if your framerate was 60fps playing the game, with one 'monitor' on the screen you would get 30fps...

      disabling planets

Sounds like an issue with your host. You need to get them to turn down the auto restart on cpu and start also monitoring the garbage collection stats. Just CPU is a shot in the dark.

      Recognized cameras and display modules

Yeah I would expect there would be some LOD tuning going on to make it feasible, or the updates might only happen when it was in a viewport, they wouldn't be stacked (like, a camera can't look at a monitor and see anything but a scan line), and the update rate might be 15/s rather than full on

      Recognized cameras and display modules

Here are my ideas to be able to wire a camera to a display module and have that display module display what is on the camera. The text on the camera would remain as an overlay. Each display unit to have two different text display fields, that it alternates between when sent an activate or...

      Recognized Qualitative vs quantitative balance.

I would and have argued that some weapons are already 'better' at least situationally because the quantitative comparisons aren't enough.

      Recognized Qualitative vs quantitative balance.

If you energetic posters could take a moment from your strident strawman defense of swarm missiles and stop to think ; "Is there any situation where dumbfire missiles have the same situational usefulness?" You would be instead addressing the point I attempted to make. This isn't about...
