      Pretty sure it's because local shield mechanics will stop ships from being gargantuan planets in space with a well protected shield core at it's verrrry center.       Astrotech + rotating armor cylinder or wheel = is as close as we can get for now.. making blocks that regenerate sounds cool but what if a ship collides into it while it's regenerating? It sounds finnicky if it would work without any hassles, but then it would be exploitable too.. i think.

      The distance is intended, and required for legitimate ships. If you really want you can make your own server with custom settings that disable this rule.

      Please make modules explode, shields only apply to armor/doors, and make armor much lighter to stop players from complaining about airtight ships. This is not what the dev's wanted and this is the only fix I can think of that is simple, effective, and does not involve a 6 paragraph post to explain.

      Stabalizers are ok, we just need two major changes to fix everything: -Make Shields only apply to hull, armor, and doors. -Make All forms of systems explode. Asking to remove stabilizers is like sushi without seaweed. Yeah it's gross but it holds it together, and makes sushi, a sushi.

      Starmade's armor is too heavy and weak, and kills any chance of fleeing any fight because you can't dodge with heavy armor. RIP ship. My server fixes that problem by making armor lighter and stronger.
