Sorry for my bad english if there are some miss spelling.
Align Ship Cam is a default binded key to C on your keyboard that would straight you up with one specific direction in the server.

I find it as a cool thing that it allows you to auto straight so you don't get confused on whats up and down, left and right.

But there is a problem in this is when fighting or facing something that you want have a better look at (from not seeing everything upside down or sideways) you press the C (auto align ship cam) and you end up in the opesit direction from where you where looking at, or if you meet a pirate or enemy you want to straight up so you can get a better view you end up facing a other dicetion, giving time to the enemy to shot and do more damage on you while you try to turn and face the enemy again.

I donno if this is possible but I wish there was a way to fix this, as a example, when you hit C (Auto Align ship cam) you would straight up and rotade to the closes Y,Z,X direction or only rotade with the top of the ship to Y no matter what direction you face.

something that would not push your aim away or compleatly opesit from where you where going or facing.

well not sure if you are aware of this but, if you hold in Left CTRL you can rotate left or right while moving mouse left or right. You can also, press X / Z to rotate left and right. if you hold in the Left SHIFT button you can scroll out(back) with the mouse wheel to get a semi-third person camera and then hold in Right Shift to look around your ship and anything else that may be around you. as a side note: you can be in a camera block and hold in Right Shift to look around the inside of your ship also.

On topic though, this seems like a personal problem, not a game issue, cause in space, every direction is " up " which is why I suggested the above help.

You can claim there's no up in space, but the map doesn't lie. You can only look so far up or down.

A tweak to align would be nice. Offhand I don't know how angle is tracked, but it should only take a little math to keep pre-alignment focus visible somewhere in the post-alignment fov.

edit: also, z/x (at least in the small ships I've made so far) turns crazy fast. Like it's hard to achieve less than a half-spin.

thats why you can hold in Left CTRL and move your mouse Left and Right for fine rotating. ;) Also, it turns crazy fast probably cause its small and doesnt have much mass. My 3k+ mass ships don't rotate fast at all.

edit: you know, I wasn't going to comment on your map excuse.....but......
Maps do not care about orientation, they are built with up down left right in mind. He is talking about ship orientation while in space.

Actually it does lie. ;) "Up" is an arbitrary reference direction that only exists by necessity in the game engine.

It might be nice to have a control to align pitch and roll to the galactic plane and standard "up" orientation. Despite this being only a reference point in space, it has its uses.

isn't that what pressing C does, auto align all axis to the galactic standard? what I gathered from his problem is that he is having issues tracking a target and keeping in the same alignment(which isnt needed), he wants to be able to look anywhere @ whatever and press C to align the same way the target/object is, however that would defeat the whole point of flying/rotating cause every time your target/object moves or rotates your pressing C or any other button to auto align the way your object in view is, thus making it not very fun or challenging.

lol my funny interpretation of what he means:
imagine going forward with something targeted.......
now the target moves ,rotates flies all over.....
and all you are doing is pressing C,C,C,C,C,C,C,C,C,C while moving forward.

Not quite, C are used as Valiant70 said.

Like C bind are only rolling you and ptiching you to a standar deraction on the server or map platform, or face of the map, no mather witch way you look you spin around and snap to the same direction.

and yes ofc space does not have a up and down side its sapce I know that and we all know that, but if you have a space station as a example and you come frying to it upsdie down from how you build it (mostly people build it from the camera view you have while entering a buildblock) witch would be up in your case sort of, and while you fly towards it and want to rotade stright as the base are, it would let you do that by hitting C as a example, but right now it only points you in 1 direction. mostly my point os what Valiant70 said.

Edit: About sapce not having up and down are in real life, but for a game to function with map and coordinate orientation it needs a Y,Z,X coordinate system in it, and snice this is a game build with it, there will always be a up and down side sadly.

Many different alignment buttons have already been requested to my knowledge, most wished forms ive read so far are:
    • Copy alignment of target (good for fleets)
    • Alignt to face target (good to snap onto a target you selected in N)
    • Level roll axis to galactic "up"
I myself would love to have all 3 of them, but C itself should stay as it is right now, currently C is the only way of spawning in stationg with exact orientations without using admin command, and you mostly want stations to be orientated exactlly, but sometimes you also want them to be not just facing "north", so losing the ability to orientate them would also be sad. Only time i could accept the lose or change of C would be if we would get some kind of menu with XYZ rotation inputs when spawning a station, which would allows us to still rotate a station as we want. Heck that would make it even easier.

In your case with the station, as it is now I build my stations with C positioning.....so if I am coming in off axis/rotation I press C then turn around and go in.... I do see your point though, on a positive note, you may not need worry, if we get the rotation block and we can make it rotate all that would be needed would you rotating in course with the station, like the old Elite game on the C64. ;)
