So today I wrote up a quite indepth display on my newly re-released ship. I had screen shots covering every aspect of the ship and I organized the post with spoilers so that it would not be an image overload. When I was finished I got an error saying that I couldn't post more than 20 images per thread. Now I understand this as you don't want people posting walls of pictures everywhere but is there a way to adjust this limit if spoilers are used to hide the pictures? It's nice to include a lot of photos for large complex builds especially those with full interiors.

I didn't want to loose the all the effort put into the thread so it took three posts just to get it all posted. I know I've also seen complaints regarding the text limit as well.

I disagree with the term "spoiler" as it references another objective, picture spam is what is being referenced having an excess of pic's on a particular subject material, a form of slang to represent something else. The square peg fitting into the round hole ideal idea. You going to have to reference a link away from site to your photo album for the in depth that you're wanting to cover and convey.

I find linking to another album to be somewhat clumsy, a lot of people do not like to follow external links and will be more receptive to images that show up in a thread. Additionally using spoilers, you can have lots of images broken up with flavor text and explanations of said images.

20 images per post*. Not thread.

Your solution here http://starmadedock.net/threads/ucs-fr-94976-a1-m-a-m-m-o-t-h.802/ was clean and well layed out.
Rather than increase the image per post count i'd rather others just followed your precedent, spoiler tags and multiple posts (within reason).
I may have been a little overzealous with the pictures but I had spent a lot of time building the ship and a lot of time this weekend getting her ready for release on the new site with the new in game features. I wasn't even aware of the limit and I would like to be able to make similar posts in the future without people crying "don't double post" even though I've not seen any rules specifically against it.

My only concern now is when any particular shipyard gets above 20 ships they will not be able to have a catalogue post with pictures. I don't know how the site handles individual permission but is it possible that well known trusted members are given permission to post more images? This way not everybody can spam but those who may have more to say and show off can do so.

I don't think spoiler tags prevent the image(s) from being loaded, only from being displayed; thus a large amount of bandwidth, memory, and time can still be occupied loading and rendering the page even if one doesn't want to see all of the images.

A good potential user-side solution is to include the most important images, with external links to images which present alternate angles or additional detail. A shipyard could reasonably use images composed of tiled smaller images of multiple ships, with links to larger and additional images for each ship. The result would actually look a bit more like a "catalog".

A forum-side solution could be to add a spoiler-like tag which does not actually load the image until opened, but provides for an informative description of the image(s). This sounds much like a link but I suppose provides for storing the images on-site. I don't think I've seen something like this on a forum before though.

A spoiler like tag that doesn't load images would be great, if feasible, as I bet the spoilers do not prevent images from loading, and I bet that's just a nightmare on mobile phones. As long as I am not going to be punished if I have to make multiple posts to cover a ship.

As for my shipyard, I will end up making catalog images when they get t0o large.

I don't want to just post an image and say "here's my ship" I want to add flavor text, lore, and technical stats. I can't accomplish this through links, you should see the item as I am describing it. Starmade gives me an outlet to express and expand my creativity by building these ships. I've always loved ship designing as a kid but was never particularly good at it and starmade gives me the tools I need to do it well. I've not just built a fleet, I've built an entire world.

I had been working on a really big post with all the ships and stations me and my friend made over the last year in Starmade.
Been working on the thread for a few days now.
Finally it's ready to publish and then the error (can't post over 20 pictures).
There is no elegant way for me to cut it into multiple posts.
    I already used spoilers tags.

As it is now I'm a bit sad that my work was for nothing.
I already use an external site for image upload.
I don't understand why it would be so demanding?

I think that for a normal post with no spoilers the 20 picture limit is a good thing.
With this said I think that within each spoiler you can put say 10 pictures in without it counting towards the 20 picture limit for the post. On top of this, the original post in a thread should not have a much higher limit for pictures. So if someone made a shipyard page they could just have 1 post and post all of their ships in it without having to make new posts or reserve posts below the main post. Again putting pictures in spoilers would not count towards the main posts limit.

I wonder if thread creators can be given the ability to add posts directly under the main post. That way we wouldn't have to reserve a ton of posts. Also does the reserved post thing even work now that they added a post merging feature to the site?

To my knowledge, posts will only merged when within one hour of the last post. Thus, you only have to get people to not respond to your thread for one hour, which shouldn't be so hard.

One hour for every reserved post you need. Also going in you don't always know how many posts should be set aside for larger threads.

That is true. However, I personally prefer the OP as an index post, not a collection of everything in the thread. That is far more accessible, and has also the advantage that it keeps the logical order (i.e., linking to a post instead of copying it to the OP will also link to the discussion following that post).

Of course thumbnails are one of the best things for an index, being easy to identify, but with the current limit we can only have 20 of those.

I agree that the image limit for posts is complete nonsense. It's pointless, it's stupid, and it only serves to piss people off when they want to share interesting things.

You know, aside from the fact that people try to view this site with their phones? Spoilers don't stop images from loading last I heard, they only hide them. Methinks 100s of pictures would be bad for them kinds of people.

I dunno, I dont see a need for more then 20 pictures with anything besides shipyards, and even then I have yet to see a shipyard with 20 up-to-date ships o- o Could always make a montage/collage of them as well.
