plasma exelerator (random name could think of something)

    So i though of this cool weapon idea,
    think of the damage pulse but then different

    combine the idea of the warp gate with the damage pulse.
    you need to make a 2d loop made of modules.
    when you want to shoot the weapon you can choose when to fire,
    you hold the left mouse button atleast 3 seconds then you can already fire with minimal dmg.
    when you charge it with the left mouse button, an animation will start in the 2d loop, a blue electric like ball starts to form (same as how the damage pulse looks).
    when the blue ball hits target, it will sort of explode like a damage pulse, in other words it is a damage pulse with range. you can also charge it very long, the longer you charge the more dmg.
    but using some sort of formula the sphere cant grow bigger than the 2d loop is.
    so small loop has a smaller max than a big loop. this could be cool for both capital and scout sized ships
    the capital can install a huge loop and can do loads of dmg.
    a scout can install multiple loops and then fast shoot with plasma pulses minimal charged.

    this will give cool battle experiences with all cool blue spheres going around (think of a fleet battle with 2 capitals and loads of scouts)

    for the 2d loop it has to be a circle otherwise the animations gets weird

    i just want to edit:
    feel free to suggest a better name for this weapon, as i have no experience with any space movies and/or series.

    I like it, especially if it requires an active charging (like jump drives) to do the normal amount of damage. Would make it harder for people to spam large groups of it.

    The thing with damage pulse is it basically ignores a person's layer of armour, since it can hit anything in it's radius. If a larger ring means a bugger ball, then how do you propose the damage is calculated? I don't think a straight linear damage system like other weapons would work as well here.

    yea that's a good thing.
    what about when the sphere hits the hull it spreads out over the ship(a bit like the shield effect when hit)
    for the charge: if you release your mouse it will fire so a medium ship can't come by with a charged plasma thing shoot it and then retreat.

    The shield effect actually spreads to all blocks withing a radius of the hit block, if you have a hallway under the area hit, you should see the shield effect spread around the walls and such. Not sure if it's possible to do damage on a 2D plane instead of the normal 3D sphere.

    This is an interesting twist on the current fire-and-cool-down system. You'd run into the same problem that jump drives are giving; players will charge the system before going into combat so they can use it on the fly.

    If the system is balance so that it does more damage to compensate for having to charge up, then it can be abused in this way. If it is not balanced to do more damage, then what would be the perk?

    It seems like it boils down to being an energy-version of a missile.

    i believe i already mentioned but i'll explain it again.
    it works pretty simple you can't charge it before battle.
    if you press the left mouse button it will start charging
    when you release it, it will shoot the sphere (if charged atleast 3 seconds)
    so if you want to charge it before battle you gotte hold left mouse button all the time.

    and yea it is a sort of energy-version of the missile.
    the difference is it has not cooldown but a charge up.
    you can choose to go for fast shooting low dmg or slow shooting high dmg.
    while not changing your ship.

    i think i could better call it a plasma bomb that you can drop on ships (not really drop as you are in space without gravity)
    you should think of bombing planes flying by and dropping their bombs

    I like this idea. I can imagine your idea with two capitals shooting energy orbs at one another. This also adds crew potential because the pilot might have someone else in the computer to hold down the button for several seconds to charge while the pilot flies and fires other weapons.

This would fit with the other weapons that all have general names. (The reason for these general names is that you can imagine each weapon to be just about any technology you like, so for example you could imagine the Wave Accelerator to be a Romulan plasma weapon or some kind of gravity gun.)
