Make it so you could make lift's for your shipyard's and a elevator that you can stop at a floor of your choosing. If it was like a tram system you could could make cars to run either up, down, or sideways. So when you have a big station/shipyard you could have a tram system set up to take you to different parts of it ie: from docking area to living area or other parts of the station or upper floors.

"rail", it describes the sort of movement, not the exact nature of what the blocks are

so is that confirmation that we'll be able to build our own platforms that move along the rail?

So like can you have a ship/fighter on rails the ship have something like wheels or something on the bottom of it where it connects to the rails and it get launched off very fast

If you want to launch something, it's fairly easy to do by undocking it and simultaneously firing a 100% push effect pulse beam at it. Add some lights going down the launch tube for some really cool effects.

hehe! You're a little out of the loop, aren't you? The rail system is Schema's next big project, and it sounds like it'll be pretty cool.

Push/pull beams can be extremely unpredictable and the speed that it pushes something can be completely different from ship to ship. My hopes is that the rail system will allow for more consistent launching no mater the size of the ship.[/QUOTE]

That sounds like a good idea BUT would these systems use different amounts of power based on size of craft or size of rain?

its too early to say, but i would imagine that the platform would be the one that costs energy to move. bigger platforms would cost more but i really don't expect rails to cost energy in order to activate them. though even if they do it should be small since all it is is just a means of conveyance. systems that are attached to the platform however should draw energy since I can think of quite a few ways to weaponize rails

Agreed, because if I wanted to I could just have a series of turrets and disintegraters circling my ship read to challenge any ships.
