Picking up loot clouds right now sends items to your inventory, even while in a ship.
With cargo linked if named it seems only natural that, for ease of gameplay, pirate loot will instead go to a ship cargo hold first, since its the ship thats picking it up.

Makes much more sense to me. But you just know that someone with obsessively organised inventory will have a shit fit over it.

i havent looked into it, but salvage beams send stuff into chests in a certain order, just have 10chests for picking up loot and another 10 with pull lists that will keep all neat. its heavy work to setup but saves a ton of time in the long run.

when storage filters were implemented i thought this would be the case however its not. seriously this needs to happen

I think you mean a "Shift" fit.

unfortunately they only salvage blocks from existing entities. items floating in space do not count.

i meant that in the same way that salvaging stores items in a certain order, picking up blocks would be the same, therefore you could set up storage in advance that would only serve to pick up and storage that would organize and pull all the stuff.

What if there is a GUI option inside the Plexstorages to enable/disable pickup storage?

If the ship used the cargo system (only named storage crates, which can be accessed from the core) to deposit items, you can pull items from that storage and sort into other storage crates. Could work that way and no one will throw a 'shift'fest.

Hmm, I'm a little double about this. If you've set up named storage in your ship one can easily transfer stuff from your inventory to the storage and when you do this while being stopped inside the loot cloud your inventory fills up again in any space you emptied.
Now if the game had something like fuel scoops (not likely at the moment since there's no fuel<g>) linking those to ship storage would be a good solution to pick loot up.

sure, it's easy enough. But easy =/= fast.
Dealing with 5,6,7...chests full of loot in the form of loot clouds becomes problematic, besides doing this forces you to pick up and sort while out in the open, often sitting duck instead of picking everything up and calmly sorting it all back home.

I have a drop chest I dump items into and the rest of the chests all link into it and each other so they will always stack items. Well besides the fact that multi-stack items wont pull into a full chest even if the stack exists in the chest already. I keep my inventory empty by using my "pockets" to store important items, park on top of a loot cloud, and shift click items as fast as I can, usually the chest empties before I can fill it.

Loot clouds really need to be balanced though. The game still cannot have a proper economy until they are addressed.

...why do I mean a 'shift' fit? That makes no sense. Whenever a big update with a very noticeable change happens, at least one person acts like a monkey, throwing shit about in a fit.

If the ship used the cargo system (only named storage crates, which can be accessed from the core) to deposit items, you can pull items from that storage and sort into other storage crates. Could work that way and no one will throw a 'shift'fest.
I always thought that connecting the ship's core to a box would mark it as 'pick stuff up box'. You can connect stuff to cores already but it's totally useless for now.
