Interesting series of videos, very informative.

I have a little question about the creative mode setting you suggested. I assume the command '/shop_infinite' will be persistent when given in the world currently running. If so, I presume it's wise to start a new 'creative' world before using this command, instead of using it in ones current 'survival', or 'crafting' world.

    Have a happy 2015,

    Jan
The shop infinite command only effects the shop that you have selected when you enter it. That shop will remain infinite untill you enter the command with false at the end instead of true.

Yeah, it is persistent, there are 2 options, you can destroy the shop or use the command /shop_infinite false ( I think that's right, it's either that or off). Alternatively you can easily make a 2nd world for creative world.

New school of Design, sorry it took so long, been doing a lot of work with the StarSide channel etc, anyway, enough excuses, time to tackle the one thing that has annoyed me the most over the year of ship reviews/random ships I've seen!

And then suddenly Ra gets a new interior; new rooms, new layout, and most importantly, better hallways. Great video, makes a person think of all kinds of possibilities when you think of a hall as a major roadway, rather than an alleyway.

Tbh, when doing hallways, I go for one of 2 choices:
    • High-tech traffic line
      • as in the video
    • Low- to non-tech slum-ish chaotic alleyway(mostly used on stations or planets)
      • Asymetrical, no order, like a miniature maze of partially open 1x2 corridors or 1x1 bridges in bigger junctions.

I wouldn't really call boring hallways "wrong", it's not wrong, it's just boring.
Sorry, it's kinda a hold out in the way I talk from my military days. Sure, technically it's not "wrong" in the sense of the game, there really is no "wrong" in StarMade, which is a big attraction. However, if you consider the context of the School of Design, RP/aesthetic ships, then boring in general.. well.. kinda goes against the idea of pretty and rp style ships. Things need to have a purpose, and preferably be pretty(I'm using "pretty" as an alternate way of saying interesting really).

In short, I agree with you, but there are a few caveats :)

Of course not all ships are designed to be pretty or interesting. Some are designed with the question "what if this was a real ship?" Certain things do not make sense then especially when it comes to military ships. I laughed when you had a bar built into the hallway thinking "Not on any of my combat ships". When I finally (probably never) get around to building a luxury liner I will have to take a lot more decorative approach to my halls.

People told me to build a bar on the Dragoon. HEEELLLL no. That's a combat vessel. Expect plenty of RP rooms dedicated to combat vessels. On the larger ships then it would be more acceptable to have a recreational area such as that. Plebians >_>

I need to get a hold of some diagrams/blueprints for naval ships so I can better plan my interior layouts.

Gotta have a bar in your ship if your hallways look like a dance club ;)

I wasn't trying to say "all ships require a bar in the hall" I was trying to say "make your hallways have a purpose, make them interesting" lol, I'm enjoying reading this discussion though :)

Speedbuilds can be a lot of fun! If you have a few friends, it can be even more fun! It's just something new to try! Happy building!
