So after having a lot of fun with trying to build an 11m^3 reactor to the highest possible efficiency, and later trying to optimize a 6x6x31 reactor with some success; I have decided to open a reactor workshop where I will offer two services:
    1. Post an existing reactor and I'll do my best to get a little more power out of it without making it bigger.
    2. Post a volume (e.g 10x10x6) and I'll build the most effective reactor I can within that volume.
I'm also going to to keep an updated list of information on reactors in the main post.
    Things learned about reactors:
    • If the number of blocks in a line of power is less than 9 it will generate less power than an equal number of individual power blocks.
    • A line of power 2200 blocks long will not produce power more efficiently than 2 lines 1100 blocks long.
    • If we consider each set of checkered lines of power (be they straight or curved) as a 'bundle' then the optimal number of 'bundles' for an oblong reactor appears to be 1. As a reactors shape becomes closer to a cube the optimal number of bundles switches to 2; the point at which this change occurs is not currently known.

I'm gonna go all out right now:
80x80x100 in a cylindric shape if possible, otherwise 56x56x100 and 11x11x100

You know there are designs that hit the soft cap inside a 22^3 right? just place one of those and fill the rest of the volume with solid power blocks and you won't loose efficiency. That being said I'll make them anyway because an overdone reactor is more resistant to damage than a single reactor surrounded by a power block spam.

Here's how I make my reactors.
I challenge you to improve it's efficiency.

Which is why I asked you. And also to give you a little challenge.

    Megacrafter127:
First design for an 80x80x100 reactor is (not yet) cylindrical and is made up of 80 individual 19m^3 reactors each having an output of 758,000 e/sec. Its not the most efficient but its equally resistant to attack from all directions due to the difficulty it causes for the enemy to bisect long lines of power.

EDIT: The second design is a 9x9x49 reactor generating 580.000 e/sec. 128 of these would fill the 80x80x100 volume making it more resistant from head on but more prone to severing from the side. This one has the advantage that it can be tiled in such a way to make a pixelated cylinder which can then be rounded out with basic power lines. Like all my reactors this one is more efficient than a line reactor by at least a small amount.

I've got a Battleship almost done, but I need to design a auxilliary power reactors for two external hatches. I would be very grateful if you'd try to research different layouts to try and stuff 1 one million power into 21x21x83 "ship" with least power modules and also built around a power supply relay, that can transfer as much of that power as possible. Exterior hull covering is optional. Thank you in advance.

The thing about getting Auxiliary power reactors is that you may or may not even want a 1 million regen rate on them. I remember AndyP saying before that the optimal regen was somewheres around 300-500k, to maximize on the power regen per blocks while keeping the size compact. I dunno, just something to consider.
highest energy per block may be around 250.000-400.000 but I did not calculate that exactly.

However 1M energy in 4 reactors is more work and may cause more lag.
1M energy in two may consume the space of around 5 smaller ones but is less maintenance intensive and only causes two additional markers for people that do not have docked entities filtered.

Its a bit balance vs lazyness, with sweet spot closer to lazy than to maxing out the system. :p

I'm afraid in that volume the best I can get is 500k pulsing or 125k constant. The reactor is easy to fit in but even if I where to fill the entire volume with energy supply beams it still wouldn't be able to keep up with a 1 mil output. It could constantly keep up with a 150,000ish output at most or a pulsing 550k output.

Due to the recent buffs to power supply beams, I have to ask.
Is this thing still a thing?
