So after having a lot of fun with trying to build an 11m^3 reactor to the highest possible efficiency, and later trying to optimize a 6x6x31 reactor with some success; I have decided to open a reactor workshop where I will offer two services:
- Post an existing reactor and I'll do my best to get a little more power out of it without making it bigger.
- Post a volume (e.g 10x10x6) and I'll build the most effective reactor I can within that volume.
Things learned about reactors:
- If the number of blocks in a line of power is less than 9 it will generate less power than an equal number of individual power blocks.
- A line of power 2200 blocks long will not produce power more efficiently than 2 lines 1100 blocks long.
- If we consider each set of checkered lines of power (be they straight or curved) as a 'bundle' then the optimal number of 'bundles' for an oblong reactor appears to be 1. As a reactors shape becomes closer to a cube the optimal number of bundles switches to 2; the point at which this change occurs is not currently known.
