It would be really good if shields could protect you (at least to a degree) from collision damage.

The 1 thing you have ever said that I agree with... but also something that has been discussed several times, and already has a thread (search before posting, for the love of god)
My space ship has shields that can defend it from antimatter, but a piece of dirt will damage it? I know we threw realism out the window, but come on! mistakes happen, sometimes you overshoot and ram a shop, it happens, and collisions ignoring shields would result in so many people getting pissed because they didn't break soon enough and have a shop shaped hole in their hull.

Cannons are no longer anitmatter.
Anyway, collision damage should definitely account for shields.
