(On a side note, having this all controlled by the config would also be nice)

Probably already a planned feature, seeing how there is tiered hull and what have you
but I figured a cool idea would be to have tiered weapons, thrusters, shields, etc.

The bonus is simply be percentage based
using a thruster as an example
Tier one of the thruster is the base value we already know and love
Tier two is +5% max speed and effectiveness
    Tier three is +10%
    Tier four is +15%
    Tier five is +20%
(or a different percentage that's not what I have laid out)
The trade off is that they consume more energy to use, which would have to be balanced

Second Suggestion would be themed ship cores
at the moment we only have one ship core, the ship core

    but what if we had
    Fighter core -
    Defender Core -
    Battleship Core-
    Frigate Core-
    Carrier Core-
    Capital Core-
    Cruiser Core-
    Jumper Core-
Basic Core- same old core, but no bonuses or drawbacks
so on and so fourth for the various types of ships

First of all why on earth would we need named cores?
well let's say they add bonuses
for example the fighter core may add 20% increase max speed(an overdrive effect) as well as faster turning
but it has a build size limit, where you can only build within a block radius, preventing massive capital sized ships with high agility.

also adds the ship class next to the name as a neat thing

and hey, maybe this will help with the whole, fleet entirely made of giant ships problem?

This is my first suggestion as well as my first post, but I figured I'd throw my two cents

how many hours have you put into this game?
and plus this will never happen, we only have a limited block space, and core will be gone soon as well so, also why have different cores? it would just make things more OP

Variety is the spice of life my friend, i'm a simple man but I enjoy my options, mostly having a ton of them
more stuff to build with means more stuff to make. Just want more widgets and toys to build with.

I've been seeing this statement about limited block space. What exactly is meant by that and how/why is it limited?

It would be neat if it were easy for a server to start out at a low "tech level", where the blocks don't produce as much, and then gradually over time improve stats, to simulate ongoing research and development. It would also be neat if older blocks didn't get an upgrade, but kept their old stats. Maybe instead of having different blocks, the entity could have a -4 to show that all its systems had stats from four tech levels ago. Likewise, maybe the admin's personal ship could be +5 to make it that much better than anything else in the galaxy.

It would also be interesting to get multi-function blocks that could be adjusted on the server side. They would be incredibly expensive and difficult to manufacture. There might be combo blocks that do such things as:
    1. Both store and generate shields (similar to what was available before the shield block split.)
    2. Generates 10e/s and stores 100 e
    3. Scans or jams, depending on if it's active or not.
    4. armor that stores a small amount of either energy or shields. (As armor is cruelly ripped away in combat, the maximum shield rating drops!)

It would also be interesting to get decoration blocks that have limited movement. Such as translucent machinery blocks that show bits moving inside. Maybe that machinery could be simulated with animated textures instead.

I don't like tiers personally, as it would give a disadvantage to new players on a server, or old players that have recently changed servers. It's a kinda pointless edge to large or fast-advancing factions which would no doubt be abused to harass noobs on a server. But that's just my opinion.

If you want Better efficiency over time, wouldn't looking for a more in-depth system be the better path? Something simple to learn, but hard to master would give the more experienced players the boost that you might be looking for.

And what is the point of the different core types, aside from removing the need for secondary effects? If you could use cores to gain a partial OD effect, then we'd see a lot of faster moving titans unless you intend to suggest limitations on what you can build with what. Which tend to get slapped around with quite a few "No"s.

I dunno, just my half a nickel's worth.

    Ok, this would be cool.

On the idea of tiers and whatnot, though... No. It gives even more advantages to older and larger factions.

And multiple core types is not the way to go to make people more open to not using battleships for everything.

What's wrong with giving the advantage to larger factions?

They already have the bonus of having more manpower to mine and to fight and to build. They don't need even more advantages stacked on top of that.

Let's unify in one, huge, socialistic party!
I'm sure everything will be fine...
    or maybe not...
