Ship Class

    Just a simple string of text displayed under the ship's name.
    Saves in blueprints, but can only be changed via the faction module (i.e, there wouldn't be a spot to enter the ship's class when you buy the ship.).

    Would the ships be defined by mass/size, or can the player make custom classes?

    I assume it would be something the player could type in.
    Maybe it could be server defined? A config file, maybe, that designated the mass of ships and used that to determine the class. That would be simplest :D

    This idea is awesome.

    The Blueprint/Catalog system has room for descriptions, I'm not sure what this adds that we don't already have.

    The Blueprint/Catalog system has room for descriptions, I'm not sure what this adds that we don't already have.
    Its an indicator next to the shield and power on nav. Completely different and (possibly) automated or at least required.

    Basically, the idea is it'd add another line under the ship's name when you target it, so your ship could be like;

    Ship Name
    ShipClass-Class Ship

    Since it's just a line of text, you could probably use it for other purposes too.

    Figured it would be a good idea now that the UI is getting redesigned soon.

    Maybe they could add in different icons for different sized ships, customizable In the config. That would be incredibly useful.

    The second one. Something Generic I'd assume, at least by default. Servers could customize the names freely, ofc.

    Considering that I do not support any predefined classes this would have to be something optional. Nobody can agree on a "universal" class scheme so if the devs were to force this on us most people would end up unhappy.

    The idea is not a predefined class system, it's just another line of text under the ship's name that saves with the blueprint, so you could have

    Ship Name
    i liek chocolate milk


    if you wanted.

    I like this idea, it allows capital ships having an actual name for each, instead of calling it only by the model.

    My ships usually have a class name and then when I spawn them in I give them a personal name. This would be a neat addition.

    Sure there are a lot of people who want one form of classification or another. If one is chosen all those who disagree won't be happy and those who don't even want a forced class system wont be happy. Considering how the game seems to be built balance wise I think the official classes would be rather small compared to all these breadnaughts flying around so I am confident to say "majority"
