Now that blueprints take a lot of time to create manually, maybe it's time to reward those who have organized linked plexchest setups at their faction bases?

I suggest a new factory block. A Blueprint Loader. You load blueprint(s) into it, and it'll automatically fill the BP(s) with the required blocks from linked chests.

Now, there is no need to manually go looking for all of the different block types that make up your blueprint.

Call it whatever, but the time for this type of idea is now. Especially with the steam pre-release.

Hook a storage to a docking port, and possibly some "constrution enhancers" If you put a blueprint in it, it'll pull blocks in and put them in the blueprint. Then it'll start "building" it, whether that's loading in chunks or just poofing it in.

as much as i want shipyards, i get the feeling from the way blueprints work now that it won't involve actual ships being built before our eyes. it might be less spectacular in order to not destroy the server with lag when the game is building big ships

i fear that i might be something as simple as linking a plex storage to our shipyard block which then periodically fills the blueprint with blocks until its full.

to put it more simply, its would be like two plex storages linked together and transferring blocks between each other. I hope schema doesn't do this and finds a way to make it so we see our ships being built at a dock

ltmauve exactly, that is almost how I imagine shipyards:

    - Have a sufficiently large dock (just a normal shipdock with docking enhancers)
    - link a "blueprint reader" block to it (that has an 1-slot inventory)
    - link one or multiple storages to the blueprint reader block
    - send a logic signal to the blueprint reader, it will then immediately place the core (so the docking area is occupied) and then add blocks overtime.
    - if due to an entity overlap the shipyard can't place some blocks, these will be skipped and not taken from the storages.
    - if you manually dock a damaged ship to the dock and the blueprint reader contains the blueprint of that exact ship, the shipyard would repair the docked ship when a logic signal is received.
    - the shipyard stops either when the ship is 100% done, or when all blocks that can be placed without collision are placed.

I wouldn't think slowly spawning a ship would be much, if any more of a lag issue than outright magic-ing large ships into existence on an extremely frequent basis -- as was seen in the previous buy-with-credits default. If they do this right it might look cool and actually reduce lag :D

You also have to assume that as it takes more work and preparation to spawn a ship, it follows that ships will probably be spawned less often per player as well.
