I was just reading through another thread on blueprint changes and thought came to mind that isn't fully formed but I wanted to throw it out and see what the community thought.

If we are moving to a system where blueprints are bought with parts or money, I figured we could possibly go a different route?

What if you bought a blueprint as a core. The core would contain the blueprint for a ship and would change as players add or remove from the ship. If the core is destroyed, the blueprint is lost.

What's this have to do with shipyards? Well, shipyards are a new block that builds a blueprint. They could be tied to a storage and would dispense (or build) a certain number of blocks per second and it would slowly build a tethered ships blueprint by depositing the required blocks. This alleviates the instant ship problems in that any ship would have to be built at a shipyard block and would take time. I'd like to see a method where multiple yard blocks speed up the efficiency. Maybe even have enhancer blocks to change the size of ship that can be build by the yard.

Now... As an enhancement to the blueprints being part of the core, repair ships could carry parts and heal a ship by filling in holes in the blueprint. If someone bores a hole in your ship, a repair would look at the blueprint, diff that against the current ship damage and compile a list of needed parts to fill back in the hole.

Suggested many times before and yes it is going to be implemented although not exactly the way you picture it.

It's cool that we have blueprints, but I'd still like to see some way for the blueprint to persist. I don't know how many times I've scanned around my ships trying to find what is damaged to repair it. It would be nice to be able to compare a blueprint with the existing ship to see what needs replaced to repair the ship to it's original shape.

I think shipyards will be able to repair ships. The way blueprints work currently is just a temporary solution.

I'd hope so. I'm tired of either ditching or manually repairing the holes in my ships after combat. It just takes too damn long.
