I have been trying to play in singleplayer (modified to have greater memory capacity and larger planets) and I have been running into game-breaking lag. Essentially, the server is perpetually under high load even when the only thing in the area is my ship and a space station. Exiting the game and restarting proves useless too. Is anyone else having this issue?

No graphics card? If you don't have one, buy one if you can. My card is like 4 years old at this point and I can play without major problems.

Try turning off v-synch if it's on, and try incrementing VBO-bulk mode until you get better results. You can also try lowering the SECTOR_INACTIVE times in server.cfg and see if that helps out. Planet size in general may be your problem, so if none of that works, default back to initial values.

In single player mode you have a dedicated server and the client running at the same time. Running the server off another machine in dedicated mode would help a lot. An i5 usually has the muscle to handle both but you may have to decrease the blocks rendered and knock back a few other graphical settings even on the GTX. I have gotten this game to run on an old AMD C-50 and a brand new Atom Z3735. Both with meh specs. The game runs fine as a client but SP mode is lagged so badly it's unplayable. I also have the setting on both set to super low. Compared to your i5 and GTX 760 combo both devices are grandly under powered. I can run a server off the C-50 and login with Z3735. It's still laggy but it's playable.

If push comes to shove you can use a public server or rent a private one for 5-10 bucks a month.

As it is you prolly just need to do some client side tweaks to get it working. Just double check nothing is over heating as well. A goofy fan can really mess with your FPS.

I should mention that the game wasn't always laggy. When I first started the world and did some exploring it was working just fine, but it was after I pulled up to a space station it really lagged out.

I'm talking about in the red messages on the side. Did any report AI path calculations taking too long?

Try patching to the latest version and always stay up to date. I suspect an AI spider may be trying to walk through walls to get at your ship and is causing the slow down.

The red message didn't say anything about AIs or paths. It just said that the game might be frozen. I have the latest version, so I'll try redownloading starmade and overriding it.

    Also, what's an AI spider?
