A Suggestion Concerning Fleet Control

    Hi, folks :)

I've heard fleet control is something planned for the future, and I'd like to bring up a little thing that could be helpful in controlling Carrier-type ships. It's pretty simple, but could have added complexity for customization.

It's to have two docking options:

    -- Dock to Docking Module

-- Dock to Turret Docking Unit (only for applicable ships, of course)

To make it more customizable, you could have different docking modes, like dormant where it doesn't attack, active where it can fire but stays docked to the ship, and stand-by where it undocks and attacks when an enemy ship is in sensor range (or if there was a support mode, repair/recharge friendly ships, or mining mode, or combination modes, any of them could apply to both active and stand-by). Stand-by could have an option to re-dock after threats are destroyed or are no longer in range of it, and/or in range of the command ship (or similar functions if support, mining, etc modes existed).

You could also have different Turret-specific docking options, like just normal turret mode, or have it automatically switch to point-defense mode after docked, or to any of the previously mentioned modes.

Really looking forward to fleet control if it is indeed planned, and I hope this idea or a form of it could be included :)

Pretty sure something similar is planned, but the real problem with this is pathfinding in a custom-built structure.

This to the max, I'm sure they'll figure it out though.
Yup. I mean, it should be pretty similar to mob pathfinding that currently is in game, except with ships it would have to support custom dimentions and 3d movement.

Mob pathfinding doesn't have to calculate paths for large custom collision meshes, just a simple 2-block box 'person'... I don't think it'll be that simple seeing as player "hangar pets" can be so many different shapes and sizes. The fairly common suggestion to create the paths FOR the fighters (Probably by placing blocks) sounds like the only viable way for this to work.

Yes, that's one way of doing it.
