Wow thanks for all the tips! Currently I am playing singleplayer until I'm ready to build a real ship. The one I'm toying with right now has no style. Though she may not look like much, she's got it where it counts. It has 10 reactor cores (5x5x5 hollow with power caps as fillers). 600ish each of shield caps and rechargers, laid out in 5x5 sheets covering all 10 reactor cores. A lots weapons and missles stacks, each with 16 blocks, which hardly use any energy when fired, so I feel I am wasting resources and ship mass in this way. Almost 4000 thrusters, so it reaches 0 to 74.8 in 3.5 seconds, but it's sluggish as hell when turning. Too much mass maybe? 8 cores and 2000 thrusters would probably have been enough for the loadout I'm using.

I'm playing everything as default atm. I haven't messed with anything in the game folder except for finding my screenshots. As for the shops, I've been stock piling everything I've been looting ever since I realized I could buy and use a shop module for storage. Today I've been flying deep into space, killing pirates and selling everything to any shops I find. Made almost 100 million just from a couple of pirate encounters. My next experiment will be to mount turrets on my cruiser, though I serious doubt I need them. At that point I think I'll be ready to jump onto a server and try some of the survival tips given here. Thanks again everyone. :)
might wanna put turrets on it if u are using it on a server
players arent so friendly to ships passing threw there space

Turning speed is based on box dimensions. You might want to consider making more compact ships.

I'm going to tell people to build cube ships just as long until it finally gets based on mass. And once it does get based on mass, cube ships, watch out, because I'm going to build the most efficient ship the world hss ever seen.

    Mwuahahahahahahahaha!

To clarify on what FunnyBunny wrote as well as turn it into a useful tip, turn rate is currently based on two things. First is mass and second is box dimensions. Mass in general has may more effect on a ship's turning rate than dimensions due to a ship's volume increasing much faster than it's surface area.
Don't feel like the box-dim turning effect is a big enough thing to ruin any non-cube designs. Or even get close to doing so. It's much easier and happier to just build what you want and not worry about an extra 2 degrees.

No, not true. If you build huge pluses with 1 million regen your box dimensions will be so large that your turning rate will be slower than a ship with about 600 mass, even though you only have 160. Trust me. I once built a ship with about 16,000 blocks, and then I built a ship with 160 mass, which only was made of a huge power array.
