    Just a small 'un:

    I really like the new lights, the neon strip-lights, but there is a slight problem with them. You can't orient them to walls or ceilings! You can only have them hover awkwardly above...

    So may I humbly suggest that we have a couple of orientations where the light strip sticks to the wall, celing and floor please? Thank you.

    They are no blocks but using same thing as implemented for grass patches.

    I think a sprite-plane sticking to the ground (in default orientation) would be neat.
    Maybe bump mapping could do the trick to let it appear 3D. Or just make a texture that makes it look sunken into the wall/floor/ceiling block.

    If schema does nothing, I guess you can only edit some light blocks to show as hulls with a small light on them.
    Or make luminous fluorescent grass.

    I build a corridor like
    H H H H H H H H H
    H H W . . . W H H
    H W . . . . . W H
    H . M H H H M . H
    H W . I . I . W H
    H H H H H H H H H

    H = Hull
    W = Hull wedge
    M = Metal Mesh
    . = Space
    I = Rod Light

    I get what you're saying, but i think these lights were filling a slightly different need. They are made to replace the "hanging" light, which often made no sense in zero-g or in the context of player builds (railings, antenna, strip lighting etc) They we're only rarely used as an actual hanging light. Ergo, new rods.

    We felt the new rods had more potential for a broader purpose than the hanging light. Building things like that sort of proves it :)

    Yep, they use the Sprite system we currently use on our plants, capsules etc. So they will always "hover" as if a standalone object (which they kind of are). Players have suggested before using the overlay system (akin to minerals) to add a secondary texture to an existing block, such as a light. But i don't think any of us have given it much thought yet as we're busy with other things (that you'd probably want more at this point in time :D)

    tl;dr I imagine a new block type would better fit what you describe rather than changing the current rods.

    I got a solution (hack).

    Move the rod-picture to the far left of your texture-tile.
    Then you can make them 1m above ground or below the ceiling, but only as a 2D, not crossed 2D (thus above ground or below ceiling -> you will be unable to see it from the other direction).

    I don't get it. Are we meant to hang it downwards? It would make sense to me to just have strip-lighting. If they were intended as railing or antennae than why are they lights...ah nevermind. Thanks for replying anyway.

    They have an off state (r), no longer being a light. When minor orientation bugs are finally sorted they could fill the role of any rod like shape in any direction in any colour and any light source. You're not meant to be doing anything specific with them. Hence this;
    We felt the new rods had more potential for a broader purpose than the hanging light.
    Do as you please with them. But they were never created to fill the role of a flush sitting surface light on top of any block.

    I imagine a new block type would better fit what you describe rather than changing the current rods.
    What you are suggesting is not a bad idea or something that won't ever be considered, it's just probably not going to happen by replacing these new blocks. They serve they're own purposes and this is not currently one of them. Hope that clears up my previous post.

    I prefer these rods behind grills or meshes, because full light blocks are so bright and ugly.

    But can we not have an almost invisible light block? It could be used for ambient light from no visible source. Maybe use forth or fifth orientation bit as invisible bits?
