    Any support for this?

    So here's my proposal: Turrets.
    Three types of turrets:

    Point-defense (or "flak") turrets:
Acts like the turrets we have in game now, shoots randomly and has shit aim.

    Main gun turrets:
These are the big guns: can fire accurately and hurt people. But this type of turret has to "lock on" to targets, and you, the ship, has to manually lock on the target itself.
Locking would be simple. Based on mass and (perhaps) energy output: The larger your ship is the easier it is to target you and the harder it is to target other ships.
After the target is locked on you can then command the turrets to fire; more advanced locking could perhaps enhance firing accuracy or even target systems.

    Self controlled turrets:
Third person view, 360 degree rotation, shoot stuff. With a bit of projectile spread, of course.

Of course, this would probably have to wait until turrets are "fixed". Currently they are either too OP or too UP and are not realistic at all.
Do you think this is a good idea? Let me know, and if you have anything too add please leave something here!

I think turrets are already customizable enough to fill most of these roles.

Too complicated in my opinion. Turrets are fine as they are.

Once turrets have turn speeds based on their mass (big turrets turn slow, little turrets turn fast, and they fire straight out of the barrel instead of out the side) this will be effectively implemented.
