To be honest growing up in the 2000's had one benfit: there wasn't internet and forum drama all over the place. Now it's like facebook everywhere I go. Ah I want to voice my opinion. No your opinion is wrong I should be able to say what I want. No I am right. Uh. Ah. No you are offended. No you can't take critique. No you are rude.

    Sounds like fun.
Since before the days of dial up with 2400 baud modems there has been drama on bulletin boards, Usenet, IRC etc. Virtually nothing has changed save for more people with less of an ability to healthily unplug when needed.

A little bit ago, I made a meme likening the moderation team to the Stasi, the East German secret police, who, among other things, were famous for suppressing dissent within their totalitarian regime. I'd like to apologise for my meme.
As you can see the moderation team is obviously completely innocent of my harsh accusations, and so it is only right for me to apologise totally of my own volition, with absolutely no duress or pressure to do so.

It was completely wrong of me to include the username of the moderator who deleted people's comments, even though people could see it for themselves. Things such as personal accountability and responsibility for one's actions have no place in the StarMade community, and for that, I am sorry.

    All hail the moderation team.

Are you trying to point out censorship? or are you trying to shame an unpaid volunteer staffer for a couple of lols?

At this point, the meme thread is such a meme in itself that it's hard to take anything seriously, including the censorship, which itself has derailed the thread completely. Originally it was an attempt to prevent derailment IIRC, said attempt just derailed it more. All we can do at this point is laugh, and keep laughing. If we can't laugh, why are we here? It's the frickin' meme thread... LOL

I made a post on this before, but I cant find it so wooooo lets sing it again.

Volunteers are not special. From the authority you wield, to the impact in critical decisions made at higher levels in regards to the site, Volunteers and Paid employees carry the same responsibilities, expectations, and levels of control. By choosing to volunteer we are not required to give you any more respect and a person formally employed, what volunteering does entitle you to is backing up when you feel the situation is not something you can handle, and to schedule around your own commitments. Volunteers are looked up to because of the level of bullshit they choose to endure despite not being paid, it is not a form of respect you can flash like a badge to get better treatment or sympathy (doing so normally gets the reaction of "well why am I even talking to you").

Being a volunteer is a great thing for personal growth, however it is painful and thankless 90% of the time. Being a volunteer will not protect you from the actions or decisions of those employed. You choose to be part of it, and they reviewed and selected you you to be part of their company. You impact the company and they will impact people's perception of you.

As a psychologist who wrote his BA thesis on safe spaces, conflict-free environments, zero tolerance policies and their effects on psychological development, I'm concerned. What I'm actually witnessing in moderation activity in the recent weeks is definitely smelling a lot like a crackdown on anything that someone might subjectively deem offensive. In short, overreactions. It will always come down to the right to free speech vs the right "not to be offended" (is there even such a right?) in the long run, and the ability to handle a joke in a joke thread, as it is: a joke.
If you look hard enough, anything that is posted on the Internet can be controversial, and while the line between making fun of someone and a personal attack can be blurred, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.
So, PLEASE let jokes be jokes. Don't try to make them something they aren't.
And for the love of god, the WORST action you can take, alterintel and dear moderation team, is to act you cannot ever be subjected to scrutiny or be the target of a joke. You're human beings, who sometimes mess up and you sometimes get called out on it. If you look for the tiniest excuse to apply the rules whenever you personally feel offended by a post instead of having a calm, collected objective view on the matter, then it doesn't matter whether you're volunteers or not, that's incorrect practice. Authority is in your hands to use and not to abuse it.

P.S. one last thing to consider: If every time a journalist or comedian would have been silenced when they called someone out by name, stand-up comedy as a genre wouldn't exist, political talkshows wouldn't exist, talkshows altogether wouldn't exist, and opinion sections in any medium wouldn't exist.

Has it really gotten so bad that the Rp players and PvP players are actually (kinda) agreeing on something?

The mods are like the KGB, with Alterstalin leading the purge. And that's perfectly ok for me to say, as I didn't say anything about the german secret police. (Isn't it weird how you can talk about the KGB but not the _______?)

Inb4 I get warning points for talking about politics.

This comment assumes that Schema is an American or that Schine is an American business with the backing of the US constitution. However, he is German running a German business and is thus bound by NetzDG regulations. Basically, he is legally required to censor offensive material. So feel free to tell the German government to shove their [censored] up thier [censored] and [censored][censored][censored][censored] on the American platform of your choosing, but sadly, Schema could not run the dock differently even if he wanted to.

The issue is international. Just because it's most prevalent and started in the USA, doesn't mean it doesn't exist elsewhere. And while the US gave a lot of great trends to the world, this is one that maybe should not be adopted by anyone else.
Also... what is offensive? It's always a subjective material. Being offended is just a subjective feeling. A lot of black people laugh at black jokes, a lot wanna rip your head off for them. A lot of women laugh as feminazi jokes, and quite a few want to crucify you for telling them. There are very few types of content that we can for certain state that it is generally offensive, and those were created by the explicit intention to offend. How many posts do you see, did you ever see, that were created for the explicit reason to offense a certain individual or group? If those are removed, good, they should be. But where do you draw the line between a joke at the expense ov someone, and generally offensive material?
Something that makes one person uncomfortable isn't necessarily generally offensive, and arguing that someone's subjective feelings determine the objective truth, is emotional reasoning and is considered a cognitive distortion in psychology.
