Planetary bases?

    So was April 1st merely a cruel tease, or are new planets with improved performance on their way?

    Because if they're coming, I want to start working on a set of modular planetary facility templates... rooms, hallways, bays, surface building shells, etc.

    I'll be honest, I'm not sure any of us not working for Shine really know for sure. I'd /guess/ that it really is something they're working on, though it's unknown how soon that update would roll out. Given that they are just showing a peak behind that riddle, I'd guess that the update is in early development, so it'll be a little bit. I think the idea of working on ground facilities is a great one, though! If I had the link on me, I'd show you, but I saw a thread not too long ago where people had made neat ground bases, with a security parameter, and various buildings inside.
    The only real issue is that without a significant update to, I'd assume, how collisions are handled, landing on planets with any decently sized ships will remain off limits. I've done it before before the rail update by using gravity blocks, but I'd intend to make a rail-based space elevator so that I can dock in space, and take a lift down.

    So I'm gonna go ahead and start putting together a planetary structure library.

    We should hold a community competition for planetary structure template sets when release nears...

    I think that perhaps a blueprint system for bases would be really cool. Some sort of method that would tie in with the pathway system would be ideal [one that can determine what is player built or not]. Through this we could have random planet bases generated!

    Might I point-out, if planets are 'round', templates might have seams in-between each other when pasted in succession. So maybe have a plex door buffer on the ends and doorways on your templates, just in-case. =)

    Personally, I was thinking of taking the route Schine took with the USD1 - make modular facility sections (rooms, halls, hallway intersections, hangars, towers, landing pads, 'orbital' stations, space elevators) designed to dock to each other, and save those as BPs and also as templates. This way players can assemble planetary facilities easily.
