Got inspired to start a new ship with four diagonal nacelles. Made up my nacelles, filled them with thrusters, and then went and built a rotator assembly to twist them to the desired 45 degree angle. Then I built a flat surface around the rails so that it looks nice and flat.

Double checked that the top of the rail is actually poking up above the surface.

And made the bottom of the nacelle flush.

Thing is, when I try to dock it now, it says that it won't fit.

Now I know I have mounted 45 degree turrets like this, so whats the deal? I can dock the nacelles when I don't have the surrounding wedges on the main ship, so why is it suddenly not liking this configuration now?

Thinking I might need to move the docker back some and hollow out space around it, and do the same on the rails for the parent ship, but this has worked for me in the past so I'm not sure why its suddenly balking on me now.

I might be wrong but are those slabs you're using to make the piece flat?

Slabs take up the space in building of a full block, so if the full version of the block wouldn't fit neither will the slabed version.

I could be wrong, however. Just some preliminary thoughts.

You could try to use pick-up rails to bring the nacelles in from a remote docking point.

Or replace the armor wedges with doors.

Rely on doors that close after docking for transition points. That way you get uniform connection look, and the entity is already clipping if it de-docks, allowing it to freely fall away with minimal collision-checks. best done with "open" doors penetrating a few blocks in, and then closing after speed set to zero on the rail and whatnot. OR you could use the same basic wedge and have that little empty space., since doors have wedges too.

Wedges count as full blocks when checking to see if something fits.

You're trying to dock an object inside blocks.

Huh, but like I said, I've docked that way with turrets with similar flat bottoms and had no problems.

Guess its only an issue with standard rails, and not turret rails?
