Okay, don't get me wrong, shipyards were a HUGE improvement in the game, allowing you to access creative mode while in the regular game to design ships in. However, its only good for ships, and the size limitations make it where you have to build and maintain a huge shipyard to even toy with designing large ships.

I'd like to see the design element separated out from the shipyard. Give us a Design Computer that teleports us into the test sector (the one we currently go to when testing a shipyard design), and give us full creative build mode there.

That way we could design stations, large ships, whatever we wanted. Shipyards could then retain the ability to construct designs made by the design computer, and to deconstruct to designs that could then be taken to the design computer and modified.

    ---

Reason for this request: I lately have found myself spending a lot more time in single player working on stations and titans than I do on my multiplayer server. I *WANT* to be on the multiplayer server where I can talk to people, but the simple fact is that I'm too limited in what I can do with building there to actually accomplish what I want to do.

If I could have a sector with creative build that would save things off to a design/blueprint I could then construct in "real space", I could actually spend time interacting with people instead of just going all hermit crab and tinkering with things by myself.

I certainly agree with this sentiment. When I want to design a new ship, I retreat to single player creative mode where I don't have to worry about resource limitations. Luckily, everyone I play with is on a shared chat program, so it's not quite so bad, but it's not multiplayer.

Perhaps the server admins could make a build only sector where you can use creative mode but still interact on chat windows,it would be like on a build only server but can import builds to regular side?

    Eh, that has problems.

    1) Its a cludge around the actual problem, and has to be implemented on a server by server basis.

    2) It requires very close watch by the admins to keep players from just doing free build in that sector and then flying the free build ship right out of it. Turns the mods into the police always suspecting the players are up to something, and thats not a good environment to be in.

This would be a nice addition, and certainly solves the issue of multiple players in a faction trying to design ships when the homebase doesn't have enough shipyards.

Unless of course they lock the sector with a no entry / exit command - which is usually what happens.

I think one option is to bundle a design tool with the game. This is not a new thing. Starcraft has a level maker, and bethesda has their own level making kits, so why not give starmade a "create your own ship tool", that can be accessed in game or outside of the game.

To make things more fun, allow it to import 3d images too. This would solve a lot of problems, like moving the core and stuff.

Yeah, but then you turn the mods into crossing guards and you can't use it unless someone is specifically there to let you in and out.

I'm not saying it doesn't or can't work, I'm just saying that is an awkward work around when a more elegant and refined solution is really needed.

Kind of like saying you can get around a bad alternator in your car by carrying a battery charger and plugging it in every time you stop. It technically works, but it would be so much better with that alternator.

Awesome Idea. I've heard this idea before here, but the best ideas are always thought of more than once ;)
schema and Bench please implement as soon as possible.

No, you login with a different IGN eg "Sachys_CREATIVE_ACCOUNT" - you are then TP'd to the sector and have your spawn set there. A few minutes of work at most. Considering these accounts are usually only handed to recognised players on the servers they are available on, there is minimal need for admin "policing".

While it may not be the most elegant solution, you do have a rather misinformed view about it.

    EDIT:

Also, test sectors are pretty buggy, so also not a decent solution.

Either way it is very cludgy and requires work arounds that should not be required.
