Is there some place where I can find information on what features are currently planned for capital ships, and how they differ from regular ships? I've seen them referenced in video and forum posts a number of times, and I feel like I must have missed some post by the developers. Thanks.

on the time line it's a ways off, still I would also like some more information about this.

Yeah, I don't recall the timeline post as providing much in the way of specifics. I'm haunted by a video I saw the other week where a regular contributor (and maybe a past or present council member) was creating a space for a shipyard on his capital ship. It was the first time I'd heard that such a feature was going to be available to the ship class, and I've wondered ever since what else has been defined.

It wouldn't be the first time that I've seen a community member create content prior to any official announcement. Since then, I've seen others comment on capital ships, however, which is why I started to wonder if I'd simply missed something more concrete that had been posted regarding them.

I think the general gist of what I recall hearing was that you'd be limited to one capital ship per faction, and that the build restrictions normally present on ships (no shipyards, no factories, etc) would be lifted for capital ships.

So that it would basically be a mobile station.

If what you are saying is correct then a faction mother ship of sorts.. interesting I will have to see how this pans out.

    Sounds great.

I hope it's not limited to one ship per faction. Maybe one ship per player. Otherwise, it seems like it would draw players away from joining together in factions in favor of creating a bunch of one-man factions.

That or it could be extremely resource-intensive to create and maintain, necessitating the use of (Extremely buggy at present) mining fleets or the assistance of other players to harvest resources to maintain it, forcing lone-wolf players to really want to go lone-wolf and generally making a good reason for people to faction together.

The game already actively promotes one man factions. I still have not seen any reason to join another faction or to let anyone join mine.

Heh, I clicked thinking he wanted advice on how to build big ships.

    *blurb*
Capital ships, to me, are any ship that produces and comsumes past the 2.2 mill e/sec softcap.
Aka have at least self powered turrets to overcome that or docked reactors.

If you will be limited to one capital per faction, would it not be better to call them Flagships?

Well, flagship is already a specific designation for the control ship in a fleet, which could be a single core if you wanted it to be.

Problem is that for years now Capital Ship and Titan have been used interchangably by the community. Seems Schine is officially giving Capital Ship an in-game definition based on the role it can play (mobile station), which means it will no longer be a viable descriptor for "really big ship", since a shuttlecraft with a refinery on it could technically be a capital.
