I've never seen this before and couldn't recreate it. Logging out and back in fixed it for me. This was on my multiplayer server.

Yeah its seemingly random. If you manage to see it again please capture the logs and report it please. Contact support team or even me if you need help.

I tried finding logs and looked here, but the latest entry in any of these is from a month ago. What's the correct location?

If this happened in multiplayer, then it was probably related to a bug that LOOKS the same but is actually different. There's two bugs- one where the plate would ACTUALLY be displaced into the core, and another where it would be fixed either on relogging or clearing the cache. Seems like you had the second. I've experienced the second before, and it sounds like that's what you had.

I encountered this bug when I was testing my Moon Orbiter, a special ship that you sink into the planet plate so you can have a orbiting entity. After i awhile i came back to find the plate where i sunk the orbiter into looked exactly like this.

in the most recent update i returned to the planet to see that it has indeed been fixed. the fact you're still experiencing this means its something else
