I have been watching this game closely for almost a year now, and have played it for immense amounts of time. Every single time someone called this game a Minecraft clone I thought they were absolutely retarded. But now it really is one.

This game is now pay-to-win. Like every Minecraft server there is, all the populated Starmade servers let you vote their shitty server up for absurd amounts of in-game cash, letting you get a giant ship immediately, kind of like how every Minecraft server lets you vote for diamonds and EXP.

On the fucking REBEL ALLIANCE server, what used to be the biggest Starmade server which now has the population of fucking Leith, except instead of getting taken over by neo-nazis it got taken over by pre-pubescent children using their mommie's credit cards to get money on a PvP server, thus giving them an advantage over everyone else. I'd rather have the neo-nazis.

While Starmade is literally one of the best voxel games ever created in the history of ever, it's now a total piece of shit with no server with a population over 35 on a weekend night and all the barely populated servers are totally pay-to-win.

I hope this game changes with the Steam release. This great game has officially been ruined by the shitty one million Yogscast subscribers that have stayed while the actual community abandoned this game. Let's hope the Steam community can do better.

Hmm, as much as i can understand your frustration i somehow feel it is a bit missdirected.
You are blaming the Game for the "policys" or the actions of people running multiplayer severs.
These people want their server to be high up in the Server list so they use ingame means to "encourage" their players to vote for them.
Depending on the way you like to play this game this might have an impact on your gameplay and how you feel about this.
I can understand that.
If i find that the way the game is played on a server that does not fit the playstyle i find satisfying then i look for a server where i can play the way this game is satisfying for me (or as close as).

But i fail to see how using "mommie's credit card" fit into this?
Are you on a server or have wittnessed that transfer of real life currency was used to gain ingame advantages?
If yes and if you do not like that i think you might be playing on the wrong server.

I agree.There are some BAD servers but they usually get shut down.

bad servers dont get shutdown. They die due to lack of members, and get turned of due to lack of funds, lost interest or not enough players to justify it/

I am a server owner. Infinite Havoc does have vote rewards. Admins spend a lot of time operating servers, and it is very expensive and time consuming if you are a popular server, so you might not have the time to advertise properly. Votes genuinely help the server. New players will be more likely to join if it is high in rank. Of course we are going to incentivise this. Why should someone go out of their way to vote for my server and get nothing from it?

Vote rewards don't affect game play. Credits are way to easy to get as the game currently stands, and most servers don't give large enough amounts of credits in any case to do anything. On my server, it would take me over 2 years of voting daily to get my favorite ship.

Starmade is still a small game, and I frequently see servers with over 35 members on anyway.

Simple truth. These things happen because they work. You dont like it? dont play multiplayer, or find a small dead second page server. Think you can do better? feel free to open up your own server, but don't come to the forums and bitch at us for doing our jobs and trying to attract people to our servers.

Ad hominem fallacy. Even a complete moron can stumble upon correct facts.

The situation is very much comparable with minecraft. A lack of rules enforced by devs means server owners do as they please. The competition between servers will result in widespread lowest common denominator strategies , like buying uptime resets from the server list provider or giving in-game advantages to players for upvotes or donations. For now it doesn't really matter due to the nonexistent game balance , but it could become a major concern.

I would advise owners who seek to establish popular , competitive servers to lose those bad habits now before it can negatively impact their reputation , and starmade's by extension.
