So, with the upcoming cargo system, which I am pretty excited about, there's a few questions that need to be addressed, mainly shops.

Will shops require a cargo area of their own? It'd be pretty silly if you could ignore the cargo system entirely by placing 50,000 of each block in a shop, which means shop-linked cargo areas are going to be a necessity in the future.

And this begs further questions which I don't expect the devs to have come up with a solution to this yet, because all of this is dependent on the specifics they come up with for cargo.

    Just some food for thought.

Another consideration with shops and stack limits is how do you take delivery of a purchase of 50,000 items.

Yep that's an interesting question, maybe if we can let our cargobays have endless opening into space it wouldn't matter but that'd end up leaving a huge slow moving and turning target to shoot at.

Wow. Kinda like a freighter. You might have to hire escorts to protect you.

We'll definitely be addressing the stocking of shops as it comes to cargo & stack limits. Don't expect you'd be able to sell the same massive amounts as you have been able to in the past. But there's some cool dynamics in the works as well so stay tuned :)

50k at a time is a massive amount? I've got ships with that many white lights in them.

well, technically it isn't 50K at a time, but maximum 50K per shop, until it destocks.
Remind me to never paraphrase while you're still active on here, mate.

When stacks are limited, if we will only be able to carry say 2k blocks then 2,001 or 50,000, you'll need some way to take delivery of the blocks over the amount you can carry.

Right, I understand that. What are you trying to say exactly?

You have to keep in mind other systems that may or may not exist yet. This is how I imagine it working.

I pull up to the Shop dock. Mess around a bit and transfer all my sellable cargo onto a a cargo pallet. Basically, just a slab of hull with a rail docker, cargo storage, and maybe a faction block to say who owns it. I press a button, the pallet slides down the rail and the magnetic coupling moves the platform onto the shop station for automatic liquidation into credits (if the shop wants it). The shop lets me know how much of what was sold and how much space is available on my pallet. I can either take my pallet back (to refill or just leave) or start shopping. My purchases are then loaded onto the pallet (preferably by NPC crew, but I'll live with automagic). When I'm done with my order, money changes hands and my pallet is sent back to my ship.

At no point is my personal inventory used. Only the storage space on the pallet. Stack size is a bit less important. If it gets to be a problem I'll either build a bigger pallet or make two transfers.

This may be overly complicated to what is possible or even planned, but I think it's more realistic and fun. I hate the idea of magically beaming cargo from my ship to the station with 200 meters of empty space between us. (You want 2k cubic meters of Adv Armor? Here, let me press a button.)

    anyway, $0.02

Yeah, that sounds interesting, and pretty amusing, and very immersive, but also probably way too complex and time consuming for something that should be relatively simple and quick.

I'm deeply hoping to see cargo-linked shops that allow stocking of more than the current, small 50K limit.

so i have set up a automatic production line for lots of modules and hulls and armor and all these shenanigans...
now i would like the shop to sell all those and pull from the factories. and at the same time i want the shop to buy ores and shards and the asteroid blocks... and automatically provide them to the refinery section...
Looks like the shoips are just better single block storage modules without any way of makeing them interact with other stuff around ; (
    boring!
