I mean, it seems like the Starmade Docks are just frankly superior a discussion platform to them, and usually the reddit is mostly dead.

Do we need it, and should we have pinned posts about how to get started with the game for the new players that stumble upon it with updated information on how the mechanics work.

I like it but it is rather dead. I like it mainly for a quick update and to see the new Lets Plays come up.

Yeah the discussions are here, but the sub needs to officially exist, otherwise tomino creates it.
(this is actually only half a joke)

Well the way I see it the reddit is nice to have, if we as a community were bigger.
Right now it seems better to just have everyone collected into one forum instead of 20 different ones.

    otherwise tomino creates it.
    This reason alone is enough.

All half jokes aside, everyone gets their news from many different means, we have the website, reddit, a youtube channel, a steam community page and even a facebook page. All of which are different ways of distributing information. In order for the game to continue to grow in popularity we have to reach players who utilize all the different sources. The reddit maybe dead but its another tool in the tool box.

So your idea is, Better to not have it then to have it? I think that it is better to have then to not to have personally. Does no harm let it stay.

Okay I need to delete my new reddit account. I think I blacked out for a bit there, and when I came to I had a massive wall of rant on my keyboard.

For awhile the reddit was fairly active, but its become pretty inactive and especially more so when indy bundles and sales go on.
Good to have just to have it reserved by schine because it saves on the reddit politics later trying to wrestle control from whoever owns it at the time.

With the recent fallout on the subreddit (not reddit, thank you very much), I can't help but think it would all have ended up here if the sub hadn't been there as an impact absorber.

Still, a subreddit has a different purpose from a forum, in a way. They're quick and easy, encourage rapid circulation of content and quick, question-answer-done discussions. Granted, a forum is very capable of these things, but is more prone to being cluttered down by it. I would argue the sub does have a purpose in soaking up the fluff, the simple questions, the let's play videos, et cetera. And really, it would be a shame to see that CSS go to waste.

If having a reddit thread keeps the SJW off dock and on that thread, I'm ALL for it
