Welcome to the Kaiserliche Marinewerften. (KM)

Note: There will be a heavy use of the German Eagle and Balkenkreuz. This is not to be confused with anything Nazi in nature. Because this is the internet, I feel obligated to clarify this mater. Enjoy!

Sooooooo I come from Minecraft and am a pretty well rounded builder (air ships). My issue is now that I've come to StarMade, I'm having issues with wedges. In MC the stares helped me do some cool things but the wedge is a 45deg angle and is messing with my head. Here is a shot of my build. On the engines, do I wedge them or what?

Try using pentas and tetras mixed with a few wedges.

I think that's also my issue, I spam wedges and end up with everything at a 45deg and I'm loosing my rounded illusion.
Well not much to do other than try again until you get it right. Might I suggest you start with the hepta(the blocks that are missing a corner). maybe replace some corner blocks with the hepta.

I meant hepta from the beginning not penta, remembered the wrong name.

I'll be sure to give that a shot, thanks!

Otherwise I would suggest looking at other peoples builds to see how they cope with round shapes and wedging. Join a build server for example.

I'd say that ship looks pretty bad-A! Would like to see it from the side. Wedging (including pentas and tetras) takes a bit to get used to, but once you get the hang of it it'll speed by!

I personally never played much minecraft so all the odd shapes kinda meshed for me...i can imagine that they get some getting used to though. Don't be afraid to experiment with them though! I have seen people create some crazy stuff using just the non-square blocks.

Here are some sides and underside view of the work I did today. I still have yet to start on the entire command deck but you should see my area markers on the top of the ship.

Here it is with me playing with wedges and taking the advice to use the other blocks.

Yeah in MC the steps were SM wedges but the steps were more fluid. I think it's just overwhelming how many options I have in SM at the moment :)

You're well on your way to being a master builder! That's one really nice ship! I'm eager to see what else you come up with!

Yeah this is my first time trying to build something nice. I forget what builder said it but he said start with 300m ships to get an idea of size and proportions. I hope at some point to make a 1,200m but all in due time. Thank you for your complements.

    Nice work so far.

Wedging (hepta and tetraing sounds weird ;) ) is a thing someone has to accustom to first ... having played a lot of minecraft myself i know :)

and make use of copy and paste, templates and symetrie planes ... sure you know about them ... but those also take time to get familiar with the quirks they do have ^^

Yeah I love the copy paste and the ability to save what you copy. Because this is my first build, I unfortunately do not have a library of shapes to choose from :P I'm starting to get the hang of it and I'm just so impressed with the community. Thanks for the reply!

Good stuff! Try using more tetras with those heptas. Play with details and shapes a lot, the more you play with them now, the faster you'll build later. Also, dont worry about going big fast, great looking ships come in all sizes and its just as hard to get a small ship to look good as a big one.

    Example of tetra/hepta use:

Wow, I really like your lines. They look nice and clean. I'll try to implement that into this build.

I can honestly say you have surpassed me in building ships. XD

Honestly though I haven't had much practice due to work and school but still, your ship is looking awesome!

    Loving those antennas!

(I know, I tend to look at like the small things that took a couple of minutes. But it's details like that make a huge difference in the end)
