Simple enough. Have a configurable render cap to prevent it from murderizing computers, of course.

Whenever a block is salvaged by a salvage module, it spawns a one meter particle clientside using the texture of the block's inventory icon, which is then dragged into the salvage module that killed it. Perhaps the particle could shrink as it approaches the salvage module?

I am not a big fan of this idea. It adds little to the game while possibly needing a lot of work.
Also what should happen when you stop mining suddenly? The Blocks start floating in space, they "flow" slowly back to the planet etc.

If the particles only are spawned when the block is already mined, when do you get the ressource and could somebody in the middle catch that floating particles?

Maybe a simple effect like changing the colour of the beams that hit a block would be better (would at least help not to aim into empty space).

I think the effect would look cool, but with transporter tech now it doesn't make sense.

Modern GPUs can simultaneously display almost arbitrary numbers of identical particles at the same speed as displaying a single one.

This is clearly not a high priority issue, but I'd really like to see this in the final release.

For the cool loking part... i would be totally in if we exchange the salvage beams with an effect that looks like a black hole that sucks in a planet ^^. I am more for a continued "sand/lava like" particle effect than individual blocks.
