Can't get my turrets to rotate.

I am currently trying to retrofit the deimos ship's turrets to the new rail docking system, but am unsure how many rail enhancers I need in the new turret base to pull it off. the barrel of the turret is 8500 blocks. The new base has 214 mass enhancers, which brings the barrel to 1% movement speed according to the popup message. Approximately how many do I need?

Also, should my base rotate when manually controlled? I cannot get it to rotate freely, yet my barrel can, for whatever reason. Does core orientation of the base affect possible base rotation?

Also, do I need enhancers on the ship to account for all the blocks of both the barrel and the base combined, or just the base?

    Thanks

From what I read on the wiki there, it suggests I will need enough mass enhancers to cover all 8 turrets (or just their bases?). do I need enough for the heaviest base, or for all turret bases combined?

The base of the turret needs enough mass enhancers to cover the turret weapons mounted on it the number of mass enhancers required is mass of turret - 50 then divide by 5 round up for 100% possible rotation speed. This is still limited by your overall turret mass. Turrets over 50mass all have the same rotation speed if they have enough mass enhancers to cover the turret mass.

For the main ship you just need enough mass enhancers to cover the largest moving docked entity that needs to move at maximum speed. You don't need to add the mass of every docked entity together.

Also any entities that are docked that aren't meant to be moved don't need to be covered by the mass enhancers either. To reduce lag all docked entities that are not meant to move should have a speed controller set to zero speed on it to reduce collision calculations.

good tip with the controller set to zero. Well that kind of sucks, not sure where to go from here. I clearly don't have the room for all those enhancers in the turret base.

Don't forget power considerations. The mass enhancers are just dead weight (adding to your problem) if you don't power them.

I usually bury a lot of the turret base parts under the main hull. So people can't kill the turret base from the outside until the main ship shields are down....or they have to hit the turret axis or docking blocks or other critical components.

Normally I put enough mass enhancers to cover the highest mass docked entity on the ship or station for the main entity, than enough mass enhancers on the bases of each turret to cover their barrels.

Wiki says each mass enhancer is good for 3.5 mass.

My calculation was for 8500 blocks which is not the mass. Actually might be less needed. What is the mass of the barrel assembly?

each block has different mass varying at 0.25, 0.1, 0.5, 0.03 and 0.01 each. Assuming there isn't a bug just hop in the core of the barrel assembly and in build mode the mass will be listed.

While the wiki says 3.5 the in game the structure config showed it as 5 mass each last time I looked.

The wiki is outdated then, the value was changed to 5 mass per enhancer one or two updates ago.

Yeah, it seems so. the math on 5 per enhancer is correct. I only needed a handful more enhancers to make the design in the picture work. The turret base would not rotate because my core was not matching orientation to the turret. all good now.
