Suggestion: Limit Reaction Images?

As the title says, I would much prefer if the use of reaction images were limited to say, the off topic section of the forums.

Maybe it's just me being an old timer, but I do indeed feel in general they are borderline offensive - in that they detract from and interrupt discussions, and more often than not are just plain hideous, with no means of avoiding them, at least not initially.

The Rules™ say nothing about reaction images in general, only

Offensive Content - Images/Videos

Offensive Images/Videos are regarded in almost exactly the same way as trolling, however the use of images/videos is awarded with more warning points.

which may be a bit harsh; on the other hand, there's not even a definition for trolling there.


However I have no idea how vital a part of forum culture they are for you, so please enlighten me ; )

The only places I see reaction images are aceface 's posts on the faction sub-forum, with the occasional one in other forums. Serious, this isn't even close to being a problem, and limiting them would just piss people off (because unnecessary limitations suck).

I also really don't see how stuff like that ^ is offensive

If by "moderators" you mean the OP (ie. me), I'd prefer a vote in the poll over a textual response, unless there's additional information. The (insert reaction image here) was merely making fun of myself, which judging by the posts in this thread, may or may not have been the best idea ; )

You don't feel like you're being ridiculous, do you? I never said ban everything, I just said I'd like to assess the acceptance of having reaction images everywhere. If the majority depends on them, I'll live with that; if enough people dislike them, it would be an option, and finally up to the moderation team, to limit them to places outside of "serious" discussion.

I have no idea who ridik is, but for me, reaction images are what sucks the fun out of reading the forums, and even though I may be part of a minority, there seem to be others who feel the same.

No, I don't feel it is ridiculous. People regularly post stuff that can be considered antagonistic, and perhaps offensive, but don't actually break the rules of the forums. And you can't avoid these posts either, initially.
