PvE or PvP?

It comes up a lot about which side has more players on it. Usually with statistics from similar games/genres about server breakdown, but I don't think I've seen anyone gather any statistics from the Starmade players themselves.

Now, before you vote, I want to define the two terms in relation to this question.

PvP - Anyone can attack anyone else at any time for any reason.
As in, if someone wants to build a titan, set neutral to enemy, and park it at spawn to fry every noob that joins the server, they can. It would be up to everyone else on the server to band together to stop them. No bans for killing anyone, no matter how or why.

PvE - Player vs. Player combat relegated to agreed upon duels, or only in very specific regions (such as "negative zones", areas where every number in the sector coordinates is negative). Things like spawn camping or playing a "bandit" would get you banned.

So, flat out question for my own curiosity, which type of server would you want to call home? PvE or PvP?

You don't need to defend your choice or try to convince the other side to join your viewpoint. I'd just like to see some honest statistics as far as the forum goers are concerned.

these are bad options i'm totally game for pvp but i'm not ok with someone parking a titan in the spawn sector so how about a third option which is you can be killed anywhere except for a few pre designated non pvp safe zones which you aren't allowed to put a base in...

Yeah pretty much any well managed open PvP server doesn't allow spawn camping or anything or that like.

A normal PvP server is typically between what you class as a PvP and PvE server.
- Open PvP across most of the map, a few areas excepted like spawn. And killing people as they respawn at their homebases is also in some cases banned (missile can and will likely lag through bases sadly.)

Logged in, got shot, went what the hell, got told "it's a pvp server, suck it up", and logged out immediately.

The server I play on has a spawn galaxy which is mixed for the newer players then a PvE and a PvP galaxy.

When it comes to titan spawn camping, I'm pretty sure most admins (if they have half a brain) would have a rule against that.
But you never know. Then again the server I'm on is the only server I've seen where the admins seem human. :/

PvP! Until the PvE is significantly improved, I can't find myself wanting to do it over PvP. Also, player interactions are (imo) the best part of Starmade! Make friends, make enemies, and have fun!

I don't see a server where people can kill you the moment you first arrive there being incredibly popular at all. And one where all you can do is kill AI pirates would get very boring quite quickly for me.

You pretty much have a choice either use the warp gates at spawn fly there yourself or make your own warp gates like if you have a faction that is both PvE and PvP. The admins there are pretty great and treat you good as long as your not a troll or annoying. Server is growing fast I think its now #1 on the list, if you want to come check it out its called GenXnova.

I love both BUT there is not much to this game at the moment in way of PVE, killing pirates and taking over stations does not sustain me for long :P

I stayed for the logic...
I left because there was no reason to pvp... and no use for my awesome logic skillz

Yup, but I find it interesting that so far the numbers pretty much reflect the MMO numbers. 2:1 in favor of PvE.
