One thing that bugs me is the inability to see server settings and therefore the need to join and test everything yourself.

The most common differences between servers may be sector size and topspeed, which can be checked immediately as you enter a server. Other settings like mining bonus, weapon speed/range changes, jump distances etc. cannot be seen right away and take a long time to explore on your own before you can even know if you want to coninue playing on this server.

    Example:

Some time ago I joined a server and I was satisfied with maxspeed, sector size and jump distance. I continued playing, went to a claimed territory and got ... what ? 1.2 million shards per mined block ???

Since I like the sandbox survival aspect of the game I can obviously not play on this server any longer where mining and resources do not mean anything to your progression.

I switched server, saw that the maxspeed was 500 without overdrive with vastly increased sector sized. When I check the weapon stats though I notice that everything is unchanged, which means the standard weapons ranges and speeds are effectively tiny compared to how fast ships can move wich would simply break the balance in PvP. Also the power consumption seemed about halved on this server, making most blueprints suboptimal.

Can we please get an option to view the server config in the serverbrowser for the reasons mentioned above ? I feel this is a lot bigger priority than adding new fancy blocks and functions right now. The game has enough features as it is to work but thats no good if you cant find a crowded server that suits you, at least this is the situation I find myself in coming from europe.

This would be nice feature to have.
Also... given that there aren't that many servers yet, one could manually make a list. But once Starmade gets more popular, I suspect this option wont be as effective.

Keep in mind that weapon speed and range settings are relevant to server speed and sector size. Meaning if one increases sector size - weapons will have greater range, same rule applies to weapon projectile speed.

Are you completely sure on that ? I am quite sure I can remember both cases, servers that had increased sector size + topspeed WITHOUT showing any different weapon stats in the T-menu as well as servers that DID show different stats in the T-menu proportional to the changes made to sector size + topspeed. I would think the host has to apply these setting manually.

100%. Either the server also had modified weapon data, or the weapon panel wasn't updating correctly. The weapons themselves, if the panel was borked would still behave as expected (changing behavior based on sector size + server speed)

I just tested this in regards of weapon speed and it is not the case. I logged into a server where maxspeed for ships is 200 m/s without overdrive and a cannon computer + 1 barrel is listed in T-menu with 2000 m/s and 10000 range. In order to test if the numbers are just not displayed correctly I aimed at my space station from exactly 2000 m away, zoomed out and the projectile took exactly 1 second to arrive.

    Try it in single player.
Adjust settings yourself and see for yourself.

Well, the whole point behind the suggestion is to see the server settings in the MP serverlist without the need to join every single one of them and physically checking all the relevant stats by hand :)
