IRL Currency isnt really worth much materially, A penny isnt actually 1 cent. and if the government collapsed we would all be broke because none of the money we have in banks or even cash would be worth anything. The same goes for space, we cant expect a fake money system like credits to be worth anything to an alien civilization that doesnt even use the same kind of currency, The solution is to replace credits with a kind of currency consisting of Coins which would be inventory items crafted from an already expensive resource. because you see: A silver dollar is worth a dollar because it is made of a dollars worth of silver, and no matter what happens that coin will still be a dollar :)

This is just nitpicking, but if the price of silver rises the coin's materials will be worth more than the coin. (which would make melting the coins into silver bars profitable)

"Expensive" items like shield caps and stacks of quality armour are used as valuable trade items currently in servers.

Plus if a server wanted to implement a currency system we have "command access" to items like Gold_Bar for coinage that can't be inflated.

The idea is for money to have material value so it will be worth something to everyone, After all you could buy anything from a chinese guy with raw gold but US dollars are useless.

After a moment on google ....

The value of material goods fluctuates with supply and demand. It is not worth the same to different people, or even to the same people on different days.

A dollar is always worth a dollar. What you can get for that dollar varies.

As for the chinese guy, that's why we have banks and exchange rates. And US currency is pretty popular. I bet he'll be happy to trade you straight up, 1 dollar for 1 yaun.

And finally, I'm pretty sure most people playing starmade are human. Or at least mostly human. When the aliens invade, Schine will just have to figure out an exchange rate with them so they can purchase copies.

I doubt that a space faring species would. It would be useful to them, as a good conductor that resists corrosion extremely effectively, but it would also be far more common. This is because the reason that it is rare on earth is because it's density means that it sinks deep into the earths mantle and core, where it cannot be acessed. The same cannot be said for asteriods.

    Credits... WIll do fine.
I don't think coinage should change. Credits are fine, and using a material good would put a already working system out of whack. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
