As it stands, we have orientations set up for rotations and such.

If we had extra, "special" orientations/rotations for blocks like rod lights, capsules, and the like that move the model to the corner of the block or center of the side of the block, then we'd be able to make much more detailed interiors. Say, having a 2 wide, 3 tall hallway with rod lights positioned in the top corner or something, rather than the middle of the ceiling.

Added bonus: The system could be expanded to other decorative blocks, like guard rails or something.

Since corners have 24 orientations, there are at least 32 possible orientations.(since 32 is the smallest power of 2 greater or equal than 24)
Sprite-type blocks (plants, rods, capsules, etc.) currently have 6 orientations(1 for each side of the cube). This suggestions adds 4 new orientations per side of the cube, resulting in a total of 5 orientations per face.
6*5=30<32 → it would fit into the existing bit-scheme for corners. Problem is, corners have no activation-bit, but light-rods need it, unless you want light-rods, which are always on, regardless of anything.,

"Always on" lights may be somewhat difficult to work with, considering that people often use rod lights that've been turned off as sensor rods, rails, etc. Any ideas on possible workarounds you can think of?

Even a hacky workaround is a step up from no workaround.

The only thing I could immedeatly think about would be sacrificing (another) HP-bit.

Seeing as how most decoration blocks are forever relegated to the "instantly killed by anything ever" category, this might be a solution. Lights are destroyable by a single pistol shot, and it's extremely difficult to go below that, so... This might be a passable solution for some of the "special orientation" block types that can be enabled and disabled.
