Look: Similar to metal grill.
Thin as a rod light, but displaced to the blocksides, instead of the middle.
Simple as that.

Goodgot that included to my huge list of blocks and stuff.
the problems with that is that either if you put multiple in a row it will look uglyGood
I'm not sure if you got it right. With thin like a light rod i meant the width. Length and height should stay one block-length.
So the fences wouldn't have to connect to others, they are alway the same size.
yes please it's very confusing xDIt would be tricky to implement slope handrails and make them look right, but if Schema can do it, that's one-up more thing Starmade will have over Minecraft.
I agree - put the rail to one side of the block. I say put it *exactly* on the edge of the block so that a 1m wide walkway can have rails on both sides without looking odd. To do that you would place one rail on top of the walkway, and another beside the walkway with the rail turned toward the walkway. This way you'd have two rails on the boundaries between the walkway and thin air. I will draw a diagram of this if requested.
Technically, you can create sloped handrails by using logic linking decoratively. Although, I don't know anyone who would be comfortable putting their hand on that link pipe. It looks dangerous....It would be tricky to implement slope handrails and make them look right, but if Schema can do it, that's one-up more thing Starmade will have over Minecraft.

There was an API released? When exactly did this happen? :PI'd be more than happy to look into modding this in, but I'm struggling to find an up to date version of the API that Megacrafter127 was putting together.
It shouldn't be too difficult though, I did something similar for an omnidirectional power pipe in minecraft, writing to lwjgl's openGL interface:
they better fix glass for once before they make that glass panelingWell, I can say that the idea of omni-directoinal rails would be great, make sure they are physical; of couse you would want to make them gray, unless...

These two types would cover most needs in my opinion...
It's unofficial, one chap documenting it all, but there is a patchy, unobfuscated beginnings of an API hidden in the jar file. There was an API released? When exactly did this happen? :p
OT aside, this idea is one I'm surprised was never suggested too often, it'll help a lot when it comes to walkways/decoration.
