When a planet is salvaged to it's core, it would make sense for, after a period of time, this core would cool, and leave a new crust of mineable material over a much smaller core. Burning a planet to (or near to) it's core, would cause it to become unstable. If there aren't a certain number of blocks above the core, then the planet will be flagged for crust regeneration (and processed when the server has time to do so). Any structures on the planet would be distorted, and anything in orbit would be thrown off into space.

For those that craft bases on planets, the fact anyone can come by with a salvaging beam and destroy it isn't cool at all. There should be a a way to lock a planet from salvage beams being used (except for the astronaut's beam). The role-play concept of this is interference in the atmosphere that disrupts the salvage beams. So, if a special block is placed and activated, it is consumed and the planet it blocked from salvaging because some particles were released in the atmosphere.

If a survival mode was ever added, where you start on a random unvisited world with no gear, just your suit and, perhaps a wreaked husk of a space ship (which can only be salvaged for scrap, and an undeathinator), then this starting world should also be blocked from a salvage beam being used. It would be very uncool for a greifer to strip mine a player's starting world, after all.

On the server-side, for admins that want to keep players from strip-mining worlds, then there should be an option added to the config files to set all planets by default to not be salvageable by anything except by the astronaut. This would help discourage planet mining, which increases the server load and universe save file sizes.

We do need a server option for disabling planet mining. It would save the trouble of banning people for it on servers where it's forbidden.

Eventually, I think mining planets with salvage beams should be completely phased out in favor of something more interesting, challenging, and rewarding, and less monotonous.

Generating a new crust is an interesting idea too. It would have to be a rocky wasteland though, not terrain-covered.

I would love this, makes it less frustrating if someone ate through a planet in your system. I do also like the idea of making a way to block planet mining in general (given the lag and annoyance factors), because I know someone who runs his own private server, and that is one of his most hated things in StarMade.

An option that forces us to destroy the planet before we are able to salvage the segments.
That would work, because the real lag problems come from salvaging the corners. As long as you're salvaging in 90° angle, there shouldn't be much lag for others on the server. (Depends on the server and the amount of outputs of course)

    On topic:
The suggestion of (limited) renewable crusts is nice but would also make planet mining more comfortable.
I also think it would be easier to simple respawn the original planet.
But I see a problem: What exactly is
"When a planet is salvaged to it's core"
    ?
Has every block of all segments to be removed?
    Than that will never happen.

There's another idea. I actually like that for a default option. Some servers don't want planets to be mining targets at all though, so I still contend that disabling planet mining entirely should be an option.

We already have a means of protecting planetary bases, if you faction a planet and make it your home base then it is immune to salvage beams. Of course this includes astronaut beams as well, but the idea here is if you are going to make a home base on a planet do so on a different planet than the one you are currently mining.

Yes, you can lock a world, if it's a faction home, sure. Yes, destroying a planet could cut down on lag. But the issue really is depopulating space and destroying the game for others that like to explore words (especially in starting sectors), or create planet bases all over the system. Even if you have a faction home, anyone with edit rights to the planet can accidentally use a salvage beam and blast a hole through a planet base. You can't do that to space stations or ships. IMO, you shouldn't be able to do this to planets either.

So, if you build a planet base, you should be able to craft a block that locks the entire world from planet scraping forever, regardless of the server setting. For servers that choose to block planet scraping, this should also be an option. Should a survival mode be implemented where you're stranded on a world, then this definitely should be added. Locking a planet from planet scraping is even more important if you place an undeathinator on a world. It would really suck to spawn right above a stripped core.

Of course, disabling planet stripping would mean players will have to explore and hunt down asteroids instead of looking for planets on their star maps, making the game more challenging, which is an added bonus.

I have banned planet mining on my server, I also would like an option to deal with people that disobey the server rules other than ban.

    2 options occurred to me.

    1) The planet upon the last block being mined explodes to simulate the destruction of the world and therefore removes the hideous core.
    2) The planet regenerates like the asteroids do, over time they regenerate back to a new planet type.

Banning planet from mining period is somewhat limiting. I prefer modifications to the behaviour of game play rather than simply saying NO you aren't allow to do that. Unfortunately sometimes that isn't always an option.

I'm not saying ban planet mining. I'm all for it--- as an astronaut. I just think allowing ships to use salvage beams on planets should be blocked/blockable. If you want to mine a planet, get of your ship out and walk. Asteroids, go right ahead and zap 'em.
